As a Senior Software Engineer (Distributed Systems), Communication you will help us envision and build a unified, scalable and distributed platform to power communication experiences that are rich, immersive and feel like life. You will help design and make important decisions in enabling capabilities that allow users to connect and communicate in realtime on Roblox, in both 2D and 3D space. You will work with different teams (voice, avatar, game engine, trust and safety, other product teams) to build a cohesive platform that any feature team can build on top of, while keeping our users safe and civil. You Will:
- Architect and Build services that help us create a unified communication platform to power user communication on Roblox.
- Devise creative solutions to improve and scale our systems to support communication for a billion people on the platform.
- Introduce and improve our processes to help us be more efficient.
- Think about improving and enforcing standards while we refine feature development.
- Collaborate with other engineering and product teams at the company to push the boundary of what is possible.
- Help recruit future talent for the team
- You will report to the Communication Platform Engineering Manager
You Have:
- Experience: You have 4+ years of experience working on backend, distributed systems that are scalable and reliable. Platform level experience is a bonus. BS in Computer Science, Masters are a definite plus.
- Knowledge: You understand all aspects of designing and building delightful systems that are reliable. You have mastered one or more object-oriented languages (C#, Go, Java, C++, or others) and technologies already; you react to any situation when the need arises and come up with the right solution.
- Creativity: You take a creative and strategic approach to solving hard problems and envisioning ways to improve and grow the capabilities of the system. You have a vision for what can make a product great.
- Team-oriented mindset: You can work well as part of a team and know how to collaborate with all participants to develop the best solutions. You are happy to share your knowledge with everyone on the team.
For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.
Annual Salary Range
$218,540 — $283,780 USD
Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
