VFX Artist

VFX ARTIST

Are VFX more than just particles to you? Are you someone who loves to animate in 2D? Are you excited by the challenge to integrate VFX with a unique, stylized art style - and want to create VFX that have character, personality and heart?

How much do you consider the player, story and mood when you create your VFX? How can VFX integrate with gameplay design to bring a new experience to the player?

VFX will play a key role in our game’s unique aesthetic. You’ll work closely with the Art Director and Rendering Programmer to create unique, handmade-feeling VFX that have a sense of character and personality. Working on a small-ish team, efficiency, problem-solving, a willingness to compromise, and a firm understanding of technical limitations and work-arounds will be essential tools in your tool belt.

Responsibilities:

• Setting up, guiding, communicating, and maintaining a 2D/3D VFX pipeline and technical needs across the project and departments.
• Authoring particle systems and features that are easily accessible and usable by other team members outside of the VFX department.
• Creating unique shaders and materials.
• Having fun making VFX!

Required Skills:

• Technically proficient and can translate technical jargon to layman’s terms - and vice versa
• Is able to create or simulate “hand-drawn” animated (frame by frame) 2D flipbooks
• Has a strong creative and artistic foundation in drawing and 2D animation

Preferred Skills:

• Can you write code? Can you create your own shaders?
• Are you familiar with Unreal or have you written shaders in Unity?
• Can you create your own tools?

Salary Range:

Our salary ranges reflect experience level, but we will be transparent about where you fit and we will always hire equitably when hiring within the same experience level. We have two ranges for this role, experienced and highly experienced:

Experienced VFX Artist: $100,000-$150,000 per year

Highly Experienced VFX Artist: $150,000-$190,000 per year
