You will be reporting to the Development Manager.
Location (Hybrid): Vancouver.
We are looking for a VFX Artist II to join our growing Maxis team and bring The Sims to life. You will work within our proprietary tools and systems using visual scripting to create whimsical effects to entice our players. You will help grow our VFX team by serving as an individual contributor in all things visual effects related. Often you will be the connective tissue piecing features together while making sure our performance targets are met.
Responsibilities:
- You will create stylized interpretations of real-world visual effects within the confines of real-time engine memory and performance constraints
- You will collaborate with the VFX team, Direction, and other cross-discipline partners to achieve the project's aesthetic vision
- You will be contributing to the design and technical implementation of VFX from brainstorming through the testing and bug fixing
- As a VFX Artist II, you will assist with defining and setting priorities, contributing creative solutions to technical challenges and inspiring others through knowledge sharing and documentation
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- You have 3+ years of experience as a VFX Artist contributing to all phases of game production on a AAA title
- You have experience creating advanced real-time visual effects in Maya through use of particles, static and animated textures, lights, post processing, materials, meshes, and shaders
- You have experience developing visual language across an ecosystem of effects, and working with engine lighting, post effects, and physically based shading models
- Experience with physics-based animation, impact interactions, destruction, and water
- Experience creating 3D assets, materials, and hand painted textures in other packages (e.g. Photoshop, After Effects)
- Technical comprehension in relation to visual scripting environments such as Unreal Engine's Niagara & Blueprints, Unity's VFX Graph
- Experience using GPU profiling tools such as PIX or GPAD
- Working knowledge of creating shaders within a Unity or Unreal shader graph

BC COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these locations. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the base salary range and benefits for your specific location.

Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.
BASE SALARY RANGES
• British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria):
º $89,300 - $123,000 CAN Annually
Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
