Tools Programmer - Core Development

We are looking for an experienced tools programmer for our Core Development team. Working with diverse teams across our four studios, this engineer will create and refine tools for games built on Unreal Engine 5. They’ll empower our developers to create scalable, performant content for PC, Console and standalone VR. As part of nDreams’ Core Development team, they’ll be contributing to multiple high-profile VR titles.

A collaborative, user-focussed engineer that enjoys working with artists and designers would be ideal for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Understand the needs of developers in each discipline and design practical, innovative solutions to their problems.

• Develop re-usable tools, asset pipelines and workflows that are shared by our game teams.
• Leverage Unreal Engine, middleware and proprietary code to make VR game development faster and more enjoyable.
• Build extensible frameworks and APIs for Technical Artists/Designers to control from python or blueprint.

Requirements

Who Are We Looking For?

Essential capabilities

• 2+ years of professional programming experience, having contributed to at one shipped title on a console, PC, or mobile platform.
• Experience building development tools or content pipelines for a commercial game studio.
• A thorough knowledge of modern C++, including high-performance programming.
• Able to gather user requirements (e.g. from artists, designers) and design software to fulfil them. Can prioritize features and manage scope.
• Good English communication skills. Able to work effectively with peers and stakeholders from all disciplines.

Desired experience

• Comfortable using and customizing Unreal Engine 4/5. Particularly custom assets, editor widgets and/or exposing functionality to blueprint/python.
• Specialism in one of more areas of game tooling – e.g. animation/rigging, optimizing geometry or textures, automated testing, localization, etc.
• Experience developing for (and interest in) virtual/mixed reality.
