Technical Director - Online Multiplayer and Live Services

OVERVIEW
As Co-Technical Director, you will use a blend of technical, management, and creative experience to define, guide and deliver the studios technical strategy for Online Multiplayer, and Live Services.
You will set the standard for technical work within the studio and take responsibility for developing the Engineering team to deliver on the creative direction goals of the studio projects.
You need to have a passion for creative live services, and be excited to work on innovative ideas, thinking big but bring with you the experience to break this down into a technical roadmap.
WHAT YOU WILL DO/YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- You will use your experience of online technology and multiplayer gaming to direct and evangelize the technical strategy for the online aspects of the project and any related needs across the Studio.
- You will work on and direct both server-side and client-side work.
- You will motivate the programming team to follow the creative vision of the studio projects through all phases of production and breed a culture of innovation in the technical team.
- You will drive and be accountable for the overall code quality; ensuring code is engineered for Live Service.
- You will be accountable for performance; defining metrics and establishing targets to ensure the online systems run within acceptable costs and allow for a good user experience.
- You will collaborate & advise on project planning, staffing plans, and workflows that are needed to deliver the technical direction and guide transformational change in the studio.
- You will provide status updates of the Engineering team to the Directors, Leadership team, and wider studio.
- You will manage a number of Engineering Leads holding regular 1:1’s, setting objectives, looking after the team’s welfare and providing mentoring.
- You will be involved in delivering performance reviews for the tech team.
- You will be excited to get involved with Technical Direction conversations within PlayStation.
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience directing on a AAA Online MP/Live Service Project a must.
- Knowledge in a variety of online technologies and services and the interest to keep up-to-date with the ever-changing landscape.
- You possess the skills to be involved in transformative change, and can define strategy and establish quality benchmarks across multiple platforms and gameplay spaces (inc. console, mobile, Multiplayer and online).
- You demonstrate excellent to exceptional management and leadership skills.
- You are highly organized and can juggle multiple priorities & deliveries.
- You have excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate technical ideas to all levels and collaborate in a multidisciplinary team giving & taking direction.
- You show good judgement by proposing and reaching conclusions, while offering positive and constructive feedback.
- You are a good people person, with the ability to read and nurture the health of the team by continuously identifying any training & development needs or team structure changes.
- You will have a proven track record of proactive problem solving, working in collaboration with other discipline leads (art, animation, design, production, and QA) and demonstrate ability to build bridges outside of the team as required.
NICE-TO-HAVES
- Experience with User Created Content a huge plus.
- Experience in varied other areas of game development such as graphics/audio/physics/gameplay/UI/design.
