Senior Technical Artist

Netflix is building a new internal game studio to incubate and build a new class of hilarious, social party video games.

The Games Technical Artist will work with a new cross-discipline core team to rapidly prototype and iterate towards a new game vision, building confidence on a great game prototype to eventually bring to full production and available to Netflix members.

The successful candidate will be able to build asset pipelines, help to deliver prototype assets and provide technical guidance to help the creative team define a functional UI and visual target, and then help to define the tool chain and workflow to deliver this look in the final product.

Responsibilities

• Visual development and prototyping: In the early days, collaborate with the core team to rapidly prototype visuals to achieve product vision. This includes building stub assets, consulting on constraints and getting stuff into the game as quickly as possible to help define both form and function.
• Prototyping pipeline: As the game design matures, experimenting and investing in pipelines and tools that enable the team to iterate and experiment with styles and functionality during the early stages, with an eye towards making production pipelines
• Production Pipeline: Once we hit production, collaborate with the rest of the team to make sure that our pipeline is robust, and services the needs of a full production team to be able to iterate quickly. This includes turning wireframes into art assets and implementing them in a performant way that sticks to the artistic vision.

Requirements

• 5+ years experience as a technical artist shipping multiple AAA, casual or mobile games
• Rapid prototyping experience, creating stub assets for use in-game while testing new ideas
• Strong art skills with experience and an understanding of topics such as 2D and 3D graphics, VFX, modeling, compositing, shaders, optimization, texturing, and lighting for games
• Exceptional communication, cross discipline collaboration skills
• Familiarity with multiple game engine technologies such as Unity3D and UnrealEngine
• Expertise in content creation and tool development in DCC tools, such as Maya, Photoshop, etc
• Passion for making video games, especially in a rapid, focused, smaller form vs multi-year investments
• Coding/scripting expertise, such as C#, Lua, Python, C++, etc

Bonus Skills

• Experience working successfully with art outsourcing
• Excellent UI design chops, optimizing for clean, legible, and intuitive widgets & layouts
• Experience building games for early or unfinished platforms
