Technical Animator

Oxide Games is currently seeking a Technical Animator to join our team, working on an unannounced game in a classic PC genre with a major publisher. Qualified individuals will be required to work hands-on to set the benchmark of quality for assets in their area of expertise. Our ideal candidate will be organized with excellent communication skills and be able to support both internal and external outsource art resources.
In this role you will…
- Create full-body animation rigs in Maya and help develop export tools for our proprietary game engine
- Work with the animation team to develop tools to facilitate animation workflow
- Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure a smooth and efficient pipeline
What types of education and experience do you need for this role?
- 4+ years as professional technical animator in video game development
- Experience with industry standard game engines, such as UE4 and Unity
- Solid understanding of the fundamentals of rigging for game engines (familiarity with a plethora of standard rigging techniques)
- Expertise in Maya and Python scripting (Pymel, Maya CMDS Libraries)
- Ability to understand, deconstruct and troubleshoot existing Maya rig setups and Maya Python scripts
- Must be well organized, self-motivated, and agile with their workflow
- Willing and eager to work with a proprietary engine (Nitrous) and support its future development
- A desire to support and have input into the creation of new systems and tools to help future production
- Beyond technical skills and knowledge, be aware of current and cutting–edge technology for 3d art production trends and processes, tools and techniques: 3D modeling, rigging, textures, materials/shaders, lighting, etc.
As a plus:
- Knowledge of setting up engine-ready physics simulations using tools available within Maya
- Knowledge in material shaders (HLSL)
- Knowledge of 3d Math
- Knowledge of the Maya Python API
- Knowledge of C++
- Identify as a gamer and enjoys playing video games
Covid-19 Hiring Update: We are still functioning as a work-from-home studio, and all hiring and initial work can be performed remotely. The studio is open for fully vaccinated employees to come in full or part time if desired. We are optimistic that in the future it will be safe again to gather and work locally at our game studio.
