Technical Animator (Staff/Senior)

Obsidian Entertainment is looking for a talented, self-motivated Technical Animator.

This role requires a solid understanding of cutting-edge tools and pipelines for character art and animation for next-gen game development. This position involves working with the character artist, animator, art director, and programmers to develop new tools and pipelines for our next title.

This position requires the ability to work onsite or in a hybrid capacity at the Obsidian Entertainment office in Irvine, CA.

Responsibilities

• Ownership of character pipeline from rigging and skinning to Unreal implementation
• Problem-solve and troubleshoot character and animation issues
• Create and maintain cloth, rigid body physics, and animation blueprints in Unreal Engine
• Collaborate with the character artist, animator, and gameplay programmers to ensure assets are properly implemented in engine

Requirements

• High proficiency with character, creature and prop rigging, skinning and exporting to Unreal in Autodesk Maya
• Working knowledge in Unreal Engine 4+ of in-game character and animation systems, including physics, blending trees, layering methods, sequencer, blueprints, retargeting, IK, and state machines
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members

Pluses

• Be knowledgeable in common scripting languages (Python, MEL script, etc.)
• Have a passion for games with character customization
• Exceptional skill animating characters and creatures
• Experience with Unreal Engine 5 features including control rig
• 4+ years game development experience with a shipped title

• A web portfolio that demonstrates a range of quality rigs, tools used and relevant work

The estimated base pay range for this role is:

• $106,050 - $156,750 per year
