Strategy Lead - Business Designer
ustwo is looking for a lead strategist with a focus on business design to join our team in the London studio. We are an award winning digital product studio with over 250 people in 5 different studios across the globe (London, Malmö, New York, Lisbon and Tokyo).
This is a unique opportunity to be part of an exciting growth period at ustwo London. As we continue our expansion, a strong strategy discipline is integral to ensuring we are well positioned to reap the benefits of our proposition and provide valuable steering on our client projects. We are looking for someone who can confidently apply their skills across the full range of projects at ustwo, and are especially interested in building our business design and growth expertise.
We work across the entire product lifecycle; from visioning and discovery, validating propositions through to launching products and services that are valuable to both users and businesses. The projects we undertake vary from highly strategic discovery work to large-scale build projects and everything in between. Our clients include: The Body Coach, Google, Facebook, The Co-op, Three and many more.
The role
Taking a project from conception to delivery (and bringing your team and the client with you) is second nature to you. You can lead, motivate and support a project team, as well as our client teams.
You help nurture our culture, shape our processes, approaches, and strategy for both the team and the studio as a whole. You know how to implement best practice and share that with your colleagues. You want to be involved in growing the studio as well as in your discipline.
You proactively look to move our client relationship forward, spotting opportunities to deepen our relationship. You are able to hold the detail and the bigger picture. You inspire through the way you articulate a vision, and you instil confidence through the way you provide pragmatic recommendations.
Responsibilities
As a successful Strategy Lead you will:
- Provide clear articulation of project vision and the strategic narrative to support recommendations
- Identify business opportunities, advise on business design and organisational implications
- Understand how to size an opportunity and what it takes to define a successful go-to-market strategy
- Work closely with client stakeholders to distil objectives and success metrics, keeping outcomes and impact in mind
- Champion customer needs by generating qualitative and quantitative insights using different methodologies in different contexts
- Use data and analytics to experiment and support continuous discovery
- Make decisions at pace and re-orientate when necessary
- Identify when projects are in risk or approaching risk and what support is required promptly
- Be aware of commercial, client and business goals - and manage project trade-offs accordingly
Your experience:
You are able to lead teams (including the client) of all levels and abilities. You have experience in:
- Business strategy You are comfortable advising on business design, revenue models, organisational implications and how to prioritise investment
- Balancing user and business objectives
You understand the importance of both user and business needs, and can provide recommendations and steering which maximise value for both - Focussing on value creation
Experienced at applying frameworks to prioritise business decisions, with a particular focus in building and validating commercial models - Taking a product to market to scale
In your thinking you look from Discovery to Beta to Launch and Scale. You can advise on go-to-market, and on growth opportunities - Storytelling and influencing
You’re able to explain decisions as well as articulate concepts and ideas in a persuasive manner for our clients and our teams alike. You know how to create a compelling strategic narrative - Leading teams and engaging stakeholders
You are comfortable leading teams of all levels and abilities to achieve project goals and client engagement. You know how to define the right frameworks to prioritise and deliver - Working with qualitative and quantitative research
You enjoy finding actionable insights from qualitative and quantitative research, and are well-versed in mixed methodologies which you are comfortable to design to fit context and objectives
Qualifications:
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate the following. You might not be a 100% match - we’d still love to hear from you:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in the development of a diverse range of digital products/services from end-to-end, scalable in size and complexity.
- Demonstrated understanding of the techniques and methods of modern product discovery and product delivery.
- Ability to evaluate business impact and implications of product opportunities
- Proven ability to engage with cross-functional teams, and work with senior stakeholders.
- Experience working in a creative agency, product agency or similar is a plus.

Salary banding: £65k - 90k depending on experience
