Staff / Senior Software Engineer, Next Generation Runtimes
1 year ago
The Opportunity
On the Next Generation Runtimes team, we are bringing Unity to a new class of games and 3D apps running in innovative and emerging platform environments. We're looking for technical experts who can contribute to both low-level architecture and high-level feature implementation. Does the thought of diving into Burst, multithreading, graphics, physics, animation, game logic and more get you excited? We've got the role for you! We write C# (and some C++) code daily to solve feature, performance, and scalability problems. Ideal candidates know something about a lot of areas related to high performance interactive content, and a lot about some of them.
Our team is small but growing, and combines a startup mentality with the quality-of-life and work-life balance of a more established company. As soon as you join, we'll quickly bring you up to speed. You'll dive into implementing features, designing systems, providing feedback to others, and soliciting the same. You will work with the broader team to guide architectural decisions, and work with partners and customers to identify areas that might need your attention.
We're already working with developers to build things that haven't been done before, but we have even bigger aspirations. If you want to push the boundaries of what's possible, are willing to roll up your sleeves and jump into diverse areas, and want to have an enormous impact on the industry, Unity should be the next stop in your career!
What you’ll be doing
- Writing fast, maintainable code for our high-performance core in C# (and some C++)
- Collaborating with other teams within R&D to help bring cohesive and user friendly experiences to our users
- Helping accelerate a variety of projects, and working with senior leadership to determine where your expertise would be most useful
- Bringing your experience and architectural knowledge to bear on exciting problems
What we’re looking for
- Fearless attitude and willingness to jump in to unfamiliar areas
- Technical experience across a range of 3D technology - graphics, netcode, authoring tools, animation, physics, script interpreters and compilers, etc.
- Advanced C# and/or C++ development experience
- Passion for performance, code analysis, and debugging tools
- Forward-looking mentality, taking into account scale and performance
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build relationships with global stakeholders
You might also have
- Experience developing game engine cores, middleware, or other real-time 3D software
- Experience creating Unity games
- Experience with building and improving multiple game development components; for example: graphics, animation, scripting, authoring tools, etc.
- Experience with existing XR/AR/VR technologies, such as ARCore, ARKit, OpenXR, Oculus, WinMR, Magic Leap, etc.
