Location: San Francisco, CA (SoMa)

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) PlayStation Video and Vue Services is disrupting and revolutionizing the traditional television industry with a massive selection of high-quality content for live streaming and download, targeted towards Cord-cutters.

The Staff Software Engineer will help craft strategic platform and technology vision while designing and developing large scale, real-time, Cloud-based services deployed and demonstrated globally by the PlayStation Network and consumed by a variety of client devices including PlayStation. This is a hands-on role; you should expect to spend majority of your time in design & architecture, deployment patterns, and operational infrastructure for services that are accessed by a variety of devices and platforms around the world.

Responsibilities:

• Build a world-class media backend services team, with dedication to innovation in media streaming, that will excite the audience consuming these media experience
• Research market trends and groundbreaking technologies that will help craft the long-term architectural vision, in support of strategic business and product planning
• Lead and influence multiple engineering teams in pursuit of short- and long-term technological innovation
• Design, implement, ship, and maintain highly visible consumer-facing media features
• Design and develop real time, efficient and highly scalable APIs; Lead the design and implementation of numerous integrations with Sony PlayStation Network’s Media partners.
• Work with limited supervision under tight time constraints and changing requirements
• Lead junior team members and have a strong sense of end to end ownership
• Enforce key principles: Code and design for the best performance, scalability and resiliency;

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field; 10+ years of coding experience in C/C++/Java
• Strong Relational and NoSQL experience
• Extensive experience building and developing Cloud-based applications or services in AWS
• Extensive experience developing high scale, distributed applications
• Strong foundation in Computer science with an emphasis on algorithms, data structures, software design and cloud design
• Ability to do technical deep dives into code, deployments and architecture, yet verbally and cognitively adept to be able to hold a discussion with various stakeholders

Helpful but not required:

• Experience working with Kafka, Redis, Spark, Hadoop, or similar technology stack at scale.
• Experience in Media related and/or OTT Video streaming backend services.
• Experience with HLS/DASH, MPEG/CMAF, DVR is a plus.
• Experience in Machine Learning, or Commerce is a plus.
