WHAT WE DO
Driving the plug-in power behind Unreal Engine 5. We bridge connections for licensees and our own internal game teams to online services. This allows games like Fortnite to utilize a combination of platform online services as well as Epic’s own online services to build cross-platform online features. Login, parties, voice chat, matchmaking, purchasing, cloud storage, and analytics are just a few examples of online features that our Online Game Services team helps games utilize.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
We are currently looking for a Sr. Software Engineer to work closely with quality assurance, community, and product teams to build reliable redistributable applications, as well as act as a technical architect. This role will create reusable, platform-level applications and services to enhance the capabilities for all of Epic’s systems.
As a member of our team, you can expect to coordinate with a cross-site group of highly skilled individuals. You will have opportunities to architect new features and evolve existing products used daily by millions of gamers, developers, and enterprise professionals. You will partner closely with client and backend services teams to ensure that the underlying systems we build meet internal and external customer needs.
In this role, you will
- Serve as a key contributor to Epic Online Services Helper (EOSH) components, with primary focus on TypeScript-based Node.js client-side service functionality
- Assess technical challenges, design architectures, and drive implementations
- Collaborate closely with client and backend teams to integrate components for Epic Online Services
- Serve as a component owner for software with a large user base, with focuses on maintainability and high reliability
- Own and communicate technical design and vision, drive development in collaboration with peers
- Define and apply engineering standards and establish quality bar for client-side components
- Partner with stakeholders to establish priorities, break out tasking, and communicate risks
What we're looking for
- 5+ years software engineering experience designing and developing multi-platform applications with online connectivity
- Experience in architecting and implementing reliable and testable client-side services
- Must be willing to learn current product (EOSH) technologies, languages, and frameworks
- Ability to collaborate with cross disciplinary teams, and effectively communicate with stakeholders
- Proficiency in writing well-tested code, including unit-testing, integration testing and end-to-end testing
- Understanding of inter-process communication, performance constraints, versioning and migration concerns
