Social Psychology Researcher Internship - Summer 2020

Job Description

The Social Psychology Research team is seeking a PhD student for a summer internship to conduct studies on psychological factors involved in Mixed Reality technology. The team informs leadership and other teams on human-centric quantified guidelines on the interplay between psychology and technology, and works closely with other departments such Quantified Experience, System engineering, Optical Engineering, and Human Factors.

The ideal candidate has a demonstrable interest in research on virtual environments and psychological applications of technology. In addition, candidates need to be highly motivated to conduct scientific studies in an applied context. We seek people who are self-starters with creative, dynamic and independent thinking skills.

Responsibilities:
Generate and contribute to relevant and innovative ideas about psychological processes and applications in mixed reality technology, such as (social) presence and virtual agents;

Take responsibility for high quality research processes and outcomes; involvement in conducting studies from beginning to end (recruitment, proctoring, data management, documentation);

Design, configure and/or develop experimental content and/or software for research purposes ( various software tools that will be used in studies to investigate psychological experiences and phenomena );

Implement readable, reusable code;

Build familiarity with the devices that Magic Leap psychological research teams use.

Qualifications (Required):
Master’s degree in Psychology or Computer Science;

Skilled in Unity 3D and/or Unreal (C++/C#);

Skilled in R, Python, SPSS or another statistical package that is scriptable.

Nice to have:
Demonstrable interest in or experience with experimental human subjects research;

Experience with VR or AR.

Education: Actively pursuing PhD in Computer Science or Psychology

NOTE: if you are pursuing a PhD in Psychology and are not sure about your qualifications, please do not hesitate to get in touch! If you are enthusiastic about, and willing to learn basic programming skills in Unity and learn to use the Magic Leap for research purposes, this may be a suitable internship for you even if you have limited experience.
