Senior Technical Artist

DigitalFish has an immediate need for a Senior Technical Artist with professional games-production experience.
In this role, you will be working on a new, mission-critical project with a world-renowned game publisher, helping create and apply pipeline systems and tools for the migration and reuse of assets across multiple studios for one of the world’s most-recognized AAA game franchises. You can also expect to encounter a broader set of clients and projects over time; DigitalFish works with many partners including Facebook, Google, Activision, LEGO, NASA, Pixar and DreamWorks.
This position requires a keen understanding of the state of the art in games development, graphics and pipelines for creation and delivery of assets for proprietary game engines. Responsibilities
- Represent DigitalFish as a trusted domain expert with visibility and exposure across a global studio group
- Work directly with studio Art and Engineering leads to understand tools and practices used today in creating game content
- Develop a detailed understanding of the studios’ rigging, animation, geometry, shading and material formats
- Document the current state of multiple asset pipelines, noting studio-specific variations while identifying challenges, inefficiencies and opportunities
- Collaborate on defining new tools and processes that enhance these pipelines and enable asset interchange and reuse across global-scale, multi-studio projects
- Integrate and test new tools produced by DigitalFish, working with the development team to fine-tune them
- Support multi-studio deployment and adoption of new tools and methods, guiding tech-art teams in their use, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and gathering feedback for further tool development
- Take ownership of issues arising from outlier cases in asset conversion, data organization and pipeline processes
- Develop, maintain and communicate technical-art guidelines and best-practices
- Partner with all disciplines across multiple organizations to ensure we meet strategic program goals
Job Requirements
- BS/BA in Computer Science or Digital Media, or equivalent industry experience
- Minimum 7 years professional game-development experience, including significant experience at AAA studios
- Current, well-rounded expertise in content-production and development techniques using a broad range of standard DCC tools (Maya, 3ds Max, ZBrush, etc .)
- Knowledge of current games rigging and skinning techniques; character experience is a big plus
- Experience creating, debugging and enhancing scripts and plugins for DCC tools (Python, MEL, Lua or similar)
- Solid understanding of and experience working with high-end proprietary game engines and/or Unreal Engine (Unity experience alone is not adequate)
- Solid understanding of version control in Perforce or similar revision-control systems
- Experience working with diverse development and production teams under Agile/Scrum
- Self-motivated with strong communications skills and able to work both in a team and independently
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States

Location
You will begin working virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions, transitioning later this year to work at the client’s site in Los Angeles Westside.
