Senior Technical Artist (Tools & Pipeline) - Team Fight Tactics

The mission of Technical Art on Teamfight Tactics is to establish and improve the systems, tools, rigs, and workflows that unleash the creativity of our artists and allow the production of the best possible art content for our players and for our future.

As a Senior Technical Artist, you will help define the technical art needs across all of the different creative and technical teams on a game product. You will partner with the Technical Art Director and Lead Tech Artist to inform on best practices and pipelines, workflow, and asset production. Additionally, you will work with fellow Tech Artists and Experts across the studio to ensure healthy and consistent best practices and support across the discipline.

You will report to and support the Technical Art Director of TFT. You will work with the Tech Foundations Experts of Technical Art to guide future-facing workflows, pipelines, rigging standards, and build a long-term strategy for the technical implementation of the creative vision for Teamfight Tactics. You will support and mentor technical artists in designing and creating rigs, tools, processors and shaders according to best practices. You will identify strategic art resource needs and work with the Technical Art Director and Tech Art Lead to promote hiring for all tech art roles on the team. As a part of the art team, you'll develop strategies and collaborate to achieve broader product goals.

Responsibilities:

• Define and level up the end-to-end workflow for our many creative disciplines, such as Character Art, Animation, Environment Art, Audio, UI/UX and VFX
• Provide technical support to artists working from our art workflows, collecting data to further improve the tools they are using, making recommendations and improvements
• Be an active member of the Tech Art community within Riot, participate in craft-focused meetings and events, and actively mentor for other Technical Artists in their craft
• Build close relationships with the artists and engineers you work alongside to better understand their needs and collaborate on tool and pipeline development.
• Spread knowledge of the team’s processes through documentation and help teams expand their technical know-how
• Consistently give and take constructive feedback, direct next steps, and communicate clear goals and outcomes to your team

Required Qualifications:

• 6+ years experience as a technical artist in games or related industries
• Expertise in game development using modern game engines such as Unreal or Unity
• Expertise in industry standard content creation tools, such as Maya and Photoshop
• Fluency in modern scripting languages and related UI frameworks, such as Python & PyQt/PySide

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with C# and C++
• Experience with PBR pipelines like Substance Painter/Designer
• Experience with shader programming languages like HLSL/GLSL
• Experience with UI/UX design and front-end development (especially Qt/PyQt)
• Experience with Jenkins or headless processing systems
• Experience with Decimation and Simulation pipelines like Houdini
