Position Summary: Technical Animator
- 100% Remote position & other cool benefits
- Working with an international team on AA or AAA games in an Unreal Studio
- As a Technical Animator you are responsible for developing tools that empower and enable our Animation team to iterate quickly and to develop world-class content.
- Reports to: Tech Animation Manager
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the other Technical Animators, Animators, Designers and Engineers to develop, test, and maintain the tools we use for animation development for our games.
- Be accountable for the stability and performance of the tools, plugins, and custom scripts developed for our team of talented animators.
- Proactively seek out solutions for the various problems inherent in creating animation for games.
- Contribute to the evaluation, adaptation, and training of new tools and workflows that empower the animators.
- Be fully committed to the supporting role and responsibilities as a Technical Animator; execute at a high-level of professionalism and proficiency.
- Be responsible for processing and integrating MOCAP data into our engine while being able to debug issues in the data or the tools.
- Be a key contributor to the on-going efforts in optimization and integration of animation assets and systems.
Required Qualifications
- A portfolio with at least two examples of your technical animation skills in Unreal and/or Maya within the last 3 years. (Any in-game or cinematic clips should include a description of how you contributed)
- Must have 3+ years of experience as a 3D Animator and 3+ years of experience as a Technical Animator for game development.
- Bachelor's Degree in Animation, Science, or Engineering.
- A minimum of 1 AAA UE4 game shipped for PC and 8th/9th Gen Console as a Technical Animator.
- Must have excellent animation skills and exceptional technical aptitude.
- Comprehensive knowledge of animation principles and fundamentals, and the ability to apply your technical knowledge to develop tools for animators.
- Expertise in Character/Creature rigging, weighting, and the systems that drive them.
- Expert knowledge of scripting languages, with proficiencies in Python, C++ and/or C#
- Expertise in Maya and MotionBuilder.
- Ability to optimize and balance animation data to meet PC and console requirements.
- Solid experience with MOCAP and keyframe animation integration.
- Ability to create and maintain technical documentation for tech animation dept.
- Self motivated to work independently and on a team to solve problems as they arise.
- Candidates should be accessible either during the core hours of the PST time zone or for at least of 4 hours within those core hours.
