Senior Technical Animator

Eight Pixels Square is looking for a Senior Technical Animator to hire in our vibrant Derby (UK) Games Development Studio . This is a full-time, permanent position; please apply only if you have the right to work in the UK.

What we’re looking for

You are a social, hard-working games-enthusiast who enjoys working in a team and is passionate and dedicated about their approach to work. We are looking for the right candidate to drive our character and animation tools pipeline. In addition, the ideal candidate will have extensive experience of naming conventions and file organisation. The role will require the constant assessment of the animation and rigging pipeline to ensure that it is efficiently fulfilling the needs of the character, animation, and code departments.

Required skills and experience :

  • Self-motivated, with excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • A passion for games and what makes them great
  • At least three titles released whilst working as a Technical Animator
  • Extensive knowledge of character/facial rigging and skinning (human/non-human) in Maya
  • An extensive understanding of human & animal anatomy and muscle deformation
  • A solid knowledge of 3d modelling and efficient character topology
  • Experience maintaining and proactively improving an animation/character tools pipeline
  • Extensive experience with setting and maintaining file naming conventions
  • Extensive knowledge of exporting and importing a character into Unity
  • Extensive knowledge of setting up a character within Unity
  • Ability to work flexibly with other departments to ensure issues are resolved quickly
  • Experience of working on a mobile game and the specific limitations of the platform
  • Experience using version control software such as SVN

Desirable but not essential:

  • Programming/scripting experience (such as Python and Maya API)
  • In depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel
