The Product, Strategy, and Insights (PSI) division of Pixel United is the entrepreneurial engine room of Pixel United. We bring together world-class competitive intelligence, customer research, and product strategy to identify new market opportunities, stay ahead of shifting consumer demand, and help Pixel United businesses to realize the full potential of their diverse product portfolio.
As a key member of the PSI division's Product Insights team, you will play a critical role in growing the business by advising all game teams across the portfolio how improve the health and performance of their game economies based on expert quantitative analysis and your resulting insights. Striking a balance between Price and Value in all areas of a game economy is a complex problem space – and you will help game teams develop solutions that are grounded in real market, consumer, and gameplay data. This will involve in-depth collection and analysis of source- and sink-level data from successful game economies and comparing vs. our games using math modeling & visualization techniques. You’ll unlock new insights, develop economy design & tuning recommendations for key products, and inform critical game economy decisions across the business in partnership with Game Explorers, Data Scientists, and other analysts across the PxU Insights org.
The successful candidate is a free-to-play game economy design and tuning expert with strong product/business acumen, a persistent analytical curiosity, and a proven ability to be a trusted advisor to a wide range of functional groups. You are organized, detail-oriented, and eager to design, apply, and refine new analysis techniques. You are excited to spend your days exploring comprehensive gameplay benchmark data using a range of economic concepts across an expanding and diverse range of games and genres. This is a key role on a growing team of game economy data experts that enables rapid, informed decision-making by product teams, and your work will have a profound impact on product quality, customer satisfaction, and resulting business performance.What you'll do
- Collect source/sink, progression, difficulty, reward value, pricing, and similar gameplay data from a wide range of games
- Analyze player-facing Price and Value benchmarks across different game economy systems
- Develop new analytical frameworks to quantify key health & performance attributes across game economies
- Partner with Game Explorers to simulate realistic gameplay and assess economy health in multiple games/genres
- Design live visualizations that compare benchmark data vs. actuals, working with Product Insights data scientists
- Develop net new Insights about rewards, incentives, balance, pricing, and similar models of economic systems’ ability to meet player needs
- Clearly articulate and present actionable product recommendations to live game teams across the global business
- Constantly expand existing economy expertise into new genres to support new pipeline games
What we're looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Game Design, Economics, Mathematics, or similar discipline required
- MBA or Graduate Degree preferred. Must have strong academic record
- 5-7 years of experience designing, modeling, tuning, or analyzing live free-to-play mobile game economies
- Deep familiarity with mobile games market trends, player motivations, and product KPIs
- Command of macro/microeconomics, pricing theory, behavioral economics, and similar concepts
- Advanced mathematics skills – Excel, SQL, Tableau/Looker, Python, or similar preferred
