Senior Platform Engineer

Vela Games is looking for a talented (Senior) Platform Engineer to help build our New Multiplayer Game.

We are looking for someone who wants to be part of the core foundation of Vela Games; someone who is passionate about being part of an early tight-knit team laser-focused on creating a game from the ground up. As a Platform Engineer, you will operate and manage our (cloud) infrastructure to promote key player-facing services, while also designing and building (out) this infrastructure for the next iteration of our platform services. You will collaborate closely with other teams to ensure existing services operate effectively, and to develop a robust and scalable infrastructure for new platform services.

What You Will Do

• Define the standards and accompanied tools that ensure our services are operating normally and effectively
• Provide a reliable, and efficient pipeline for code from local development all the way through to production
• Build, configure, operate and define the core foundation of our infrastructure platform from the current pre-launch phase all the way through to operating a live-service
• Create and operate tools and services that improve engineering- and operational- efficiency
• Write runbooks for yourself and others to systematically perform maintenances and know how to handle specific scenarios

Requirements

• 2+ years’ experience in a Systems Engineering role
• Experience with Linux systems at scale on cloud platforms
• Experience with AWS technologies (e.g., EC2, EKS, ECR)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins)
• Ability to write software, especially tooling to assist in supporting systems
• Experience with configuration management and orchestration tools
• Excellent communication skills: Ability to effectively converse with technical & non-technical team members
• Self-motivated / have a growth mindset: Ability to team up, but also take the lead and work independently when needed
• Start-up orientation: Strong technical focus, but also able to jump on and contribute to work outside specialization
• Deep passion for multiplayer games and player experience

Bonus Points

• Working Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, Golang)
• Previous AAA PC or console game development knowledge
• Previous experience working on an online multiplayer service game
