We are looking for a Senior/Principal Online Programmer join our team in the development of a AAA multiplayer action title in Unreal Engine 5. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining both frontend and backend online systems. This is the perfect opportunity for an experienced programmer with the knowledge, ambition, and impeccable standards to deliver their career-best work. You will help shape an exciting title in active development.
You and your team will work closely with a range of disciplines to deliver, iterate, evolve and polish online systems to the highest quality possible; ensuring they are useable, well optimised and bug free.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and develop services to support AAA online games
- Interface with console platform systems
- Produce robust, efficient, clear and maintainable code, while striving to reduce technical debt across the game.
- Be a point of contact for other teams using for the systems you create and maintain.
- Take responsibility for, and ownership of even the thornier elements of shipping a game, such as debugging awkward crashes, profiling and optimising code, and performing diligent testing of changes.
- Bring your own experience of best working practices to the team
- Organize the gameplay programming team through planning, meetings and documentation.
- Mentor others in the online programming team
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of, and experience of programming in C++.
- Learning specific areas of and debugging issues in large and complex C++ based codebases.
- Experience profiling and optimising CPU and bandwidth performance of real-time and networked/multiplayer/online oriented systems.
- General software engineering knowledge, such as OOP, design patterns & API development.
- The ability to write and optimise solid, robust and maintainable game code that respects agreed development guidelines.
- Previous experience in a similar role, ideally with experience of working with and a passion for first person shooting and/or vehicle-based driving games.
Additional or Desired Skills:- Approachable, with a proactive attitude towards cross discipline communication.
- A willingness and desire to learn, adapt and work outside of your comfort zone.
- Experienced with Unreal Engine.
- Experienced with Console development.
- Familiarity with DevOps processes
- Experience with Playfab, AWS or similar services
