Striking Distance Studios continues to grow. We are looking for talented developers with experience working on large-scale, live service games to join us in our San Ramon studio.
What we need:
Striking Distance Studios is looking for an experienced Senior Networking Engineer to help create a new next generation AAA experience.
Responsibilities:
- Work on multiple systems, primarily focused on Networking, Replication and Performance for
- Architect and implement high performance networking code solutions for both client-side and server-side game logic
- Instrument, profile, analyze, and optimize network game traffic
- Participate in code reviews and discussions with other engineers on the team
- Be a player and coach - leading by example by leading the optimization of existing code leveraging C/C++ and other applicable languages.
- Collaborate with other Engineering and Design team leads (Gameplay, UI) as well as the Backend developers to prototype, develop and refine features.
- Take ownership of a larger Online systems or tools.
Qualifications:
- Excellent knowledge of algorithms, data structures, performance, and multi-threaded programming techniques
- Proficiency in client-server networking architecture, network protocols, and peer-to-peer architectures for large scale multiplayer games.
- Experience with network debugging skills and tools and network performance / bandwidth analysis techniques and tools,
- Knowledgeable about network protocols: you understand the messages exchanged during communication over these protocols.
- Keen to understand each millisecond of the network exchanges: you know where the time goes and how to reduce the waste.
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Strong expertise with C++.
- Experience shipping consoles and PC.
- Self-sufficient: you can break down high-level tasks and drive them to completion.
- Multi-platform: you understand, across all platforms, what happens hardware-level when certain code is executed,
- Ready for a challenge: you're eager to tackle the hardest multiplayer network problems you can find.
- Positive and enthusiastic to engage new challenges.
- Open minded, willing to be continuously learning, and with exceptional communication and teamwork skills.
- Unreal 4 experience preferable.
