Senior Narrative Designer

It’s a really exciting time to be at Space Ape Games. We’ve created a fast-paced environment that promotes genuine autonomy and we have projects at all stages of the development cycle. We launched our hit music game, Beatstar, in 2021 and we’re following its success with Countrystar less than two years later. We also officially launched our first puzzle game in 2023, Chrome Valley Customs, and we’re focusing on scaling this game to further global success. On top of all this, we’re running several mature live games and working on some exciting new projects behind the scenes!

As a Senior Narrative Designer at Space Ape, you’ll own the narrative design of one of our games. Embedded with the game team, you’ll be hands-on in helping develop the world and vision of the game and collaborate daily with other disciplines. You’ll have a high degree of autonomy and ownership over your work and you’ll bring your creativity and experience to bear on creating the best possible story for the game. Beyond your game, you’ll also have the support of the wider Game Design team with plenty of opportunities to expand your craft.

Responsibilities

• Owning story direction, content production and narrative systems design on a game and acting as the point-of-contact for the game’s written content
• Working with art and game design to create characters and storylines
• Owning the production of narrative content. This will include plenty of writing, reviewing and editing as well as building a content pipeline that delivers on time
• Designing narrative systems and working with development teams to get those systems built

Requirements

• You’ll need extensive game narrative design experience, owning creative and production responsibilities in a senior capacity
• This must include experience within f2p/mobile games and ideally includes full-cycle development from early creative to live content post-launch
• You are confident and experienced in leading creative work - you’re used to running workshops and writer’s rooms, collaborating with other disciplines, and problem-solving tricky questions on game vision
• You’re also highly productive as an individual. You love sitting down to write and design, and you can point to significant examples of game content you’ve developed
• You’re passionate about the craft of narrative design. You believe in finding the right story for a game and its players and you’re excited to be the advocate of this for your team
• You’re an excellent writer and editor, with particular skills in dialogue and humour
