About the Role
We are looking for a thoughtful and collaborative Senior Manager to lead our Design Program Management Practice within our growing Design Operations team. Design Operations is a new endeavor for our UX organization that works across the entire team, supporting our biggest projects, defining and tracking our goals, and ensuring that every designer has the support they need to promote creativity and invent customer-focused solutions. Reporting into the Head of Design Operations, you will directly manage a growing team of Design Program Managers responsible for developing end-to-end process, routines; and standing up programs, including defining team rituals, organizational artifacts across the Design team and beyond. Our UX organization is mostly on the west coast but we are distributed throughout the United States and Europe and we are open to remote candidates for this position. You Will:
- Develop an end-to-end process including activities, artifacts and meetings or routines as a part of Designer process applying industry norms but also incorporating the team's unique approaches and best practices;
- Stand-up supporting rituals and routines to support elevation of cross-department design projects from discovery to validation into a program of work
- Establish and launch various how-we-work 101 methods and training for the design team to use, creating practical applications of process to tooling (Figma, JIRA) and across teams (UX Designer to Accessibility PM)
- Be a trusted advisor and strategic partner to Directors of Design supporting roadmap planning, helping galvanize and increasing engagement across the team
- Be a resource and collaborator with Product, Engineering and other cross-functional support or control partners; work collectively to identify opportunities to improve the design process and conversely to advocate for the design process across the business
- Develop resourcing, capacity planning and table stakes program management routines like sprint planning, grooming, walking the board , etc .
- Create meaningful reports and presentations of program details and health for leadership - detailed and at-a-glance
- Build relationships with the designers and raise their concerns to design leadership in a detailed and applicable style
- Develop and seek feedback on solutions to common problems, implement the resulting solution
You Have:
- 5+ years managing or matrixed management of program managers
- Extensive experience (10+ yrs ) in managing complex projects / programs for a large software business in the area of Design or Product Development
- Experience setting strategic direction, problem solving , process improvement - you not only demonstrate understanding the what but also have demonstrated developing the how / solutioning
- Proficiency with project management software especially JIRA / Atlassian tools
- Deep understanding of complex processes, design process standards and practices
- Helped teams of designers create a process to clarify ambiguous problems
- Identified areas for self-improvement and challenged yourself to grow
- Comprehension of common design tools such as Figma and Sketch
- Commitment to following through and helping others make decisions

- Experience as a designer, in service design, in design operations or close alignment with teams these teams in the past
