- Develop, maintain, and optimize lighting setups, utilizing dynamic and static techniques, to create compelling visuals while adhering to technical specifications
- Collaborate closely with Tech Art, Graphics Engineering, and Production to establish the lighting pipeline, workflows, and visual benchmarks
- Leverage technical comprehension to participate as a key stakeholder in determining which feature sets to use to best serve the project
- Develop strategies on how to leverage UE5 to the fullest
- Determine where to invest on improving lighting beyond UE5, troubleshooting and solving technical challenges related to environmental lighting as needed
Sound like you? This is what we're looking for:
- Professional work experience in AA or AAA games for console or PC
- 7+ years working professionally as a Lighting Artist in game development (or a combination of game development and a related field)
- Experience with Unreal, specifically including professional or personal experience with UE5
- Strong portfolio showcasing a wide range of lighting styles and techniques, highlighting both artistic and technical proficiency
- Real-time game engine experience and an understanding of how to navigate and leverage its many features
- Comprehensive knowledge of lighting performance, optimization, and memory budget management
- Strong understanding of art fundamentals including composition and colour theory
- Excellent artistic eye for lighting in high-quality realistic environments
- Problem solver who is comfortable collaborating with other disciplines to drive decisions in the lighting space
- Unafraid to explore and use new technology, researching and delivering solutions that best suit the team
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision
- Honed communication skills with the ability to provide and accept feedback
Nice-to-haves:
- Familiar with, or experience working in the pre-production phase of a project
- Experience shipping AA or AAA video games
- A passion for video games and creating immersive experiences!
And here is why we think you'll love working at SkyBox Labs:
- Annual bonus and up to 3% RRSP matching available
- Comprehensive health benefits, along with a supportive Parental Leave policy
- Flexible hybrid and remote working arrangements: leverage our beautiful studio spaces as needed, and use our $400 work-from-home allowance to make your home office comfortable
- Take care of your mental health with our Employee Assistance Program, 3 weeks of vacation leave, and our free gym at our Burnaby Studio
- We relentlessly support your growth and development! Level up your C++ skills at SkyBox University, explore other disciplines through our Guild Program, and expand your game dev knowledge with Lunch & Learns. You’ll join a culture of empowerment, collaboration, and personal growth
- Social events! Have fun with the team at trivia nights, karaoke nights, movie nights, and various group activities. Join our soccer team, game jams, or a board game sesh after work. You name it, we’ve got it!
- You’ll contribute to industry-leading titles, from legendary AAA franchises to Original IP
The base salary range is $97,000 - $133,000. The stated pay scale reflects the range that SkyBox Labs reasonably expects to pay for this position. Your base salary will be determined by various factors including, but not limited to, qualifications, skills, and experience.
