Senior Gameplay Programmer (Canada-based Applicants Only)

Happiness Interactive Inc. is a brand new indie studio based in Canada, currently in the pre-production phase of developing our first title. Our small, close-knit team is dedicated to developing a game that will pioneer a new kind of dynamic virtual world, designed with emergence in mind, ensuring that the development process is as dynamic and engaging as the world we're building.

Role Description:

We are seeking a Senior Gameplay Programmer to join our team during the early stages of development. Initially, you will be focused on developing a simple Minimum Viable Product (MVP) as we prepare for the prototyping phase. In this role, you will be responsible for bringing characters, abilities, progression, and world systems to life. Once we progress to the prototyping phase, you will work closely with Dave Marks and his Infinite Axis Utility System to implement the dynamic, reactive AI essential for our game. This position requires expertise in Unity and C#.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement gameplay systems including characters, abilities, and progression.
• Ensure the scalability and modularity of game systems.
• Working closely with Dave Marks to integrate the Infinite Axis Utility System for dynamic AI during the prototyping phase.
• Work closely with designers, artists, and other programmers to create a cohesive game experience.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.

Qualifications:

• Must be a Canadian citizen/permanent resident due to the requirements of our funding structure.
• 5-7+ years of gameplay programming experience.
• Proven experience in developing 3D games; third-person game development experience is a significant advantage.
• Dave will be there to help you learn most of what you need for game AI development, but some familiarity with things such as pathfinding is beneficial. And a willingness to learn new tools like the Infinite Axis Utility System is a must.
• Experience in systems engineering and scalable modular systems architecture is also a plus.

• Passion for and experience in playing Roguelikes, MMORPGs, and MOBAs, as our design incorporates elements from these genres.
• Enthusiasm for imaginative and otherworldly settings, with a keen interest in non-human creatures and the creation of a unique, immersive world.
