Senior Game Designer, Levels

Game Designers at the Believer company create the systems, mechanics, and content that creates fun for our players! As a Senior Game Designer on Levels, you will help us create incredible Open Worlds for our players. You will work closely with other developers to immerse players in wondrous places designed to spark their imagination and desire to deeply explore. And you will use design best practices and new technology to bring players story and gameplay moments they’ve never experienced before.

Experience with level design fundamentals and past experience in leading players through worlds will be crucial for this role. Technical experience is a must, with experience or excitement to learn Unreal Engine 5. Being open to stretching your skillset and taking on novel challenges in a currently small studio environment will be necessary as we iterate through early prototyping to find our studio style and iconic gameplay. You will report to the Design Director.

What you'll do:

• Work with designers, artists, and engineers to align on the vision for our open world gameplay
• Design engaging levels and open worlds in UE5 to aid in early prototyping
• Design fun and exciting encounters and spaces for players to adventure within
• Prototype, experiment, and capture insights
• Work with engineers to build tools that accelerate and promote our development
• Playtest the game daily - we believe that we learn best by going through the player experience at every opportunity

Required Qualifications:

• Deep familiarity with open world games, narrative games, and MMO’s
• Excitement or experience working with Unreal Engine 5
• Experience in early game development and prototyping
• Strong ability to collaborate across departments and articulate design thoughts
• Provide constructive and thoughtful feedback to others

Desired Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in game development, on live service or box products
• Ability to predict outcomes of game design decisions on players and other content
• Shipped or maintained 2+ AAA titles
• Paper prototyping game theses and concepts
• Can use existing frameworks to develop novel solutions and reverse-engineer designs

What we offer:

Annual salary range: $133,000 - $193,000
