Senior Engineering Manager (Solution Delivery and Partner Engineering), Defence

Your mission is to take responsibility for our teams that deal with customer-focused work and the partner solutions required to enable this. Our teams are imperative for the success of Improbables Defence strategy, creating impact across all sister teams and our clients/ partners directly. You'll be initially responsible for two direct reports (engineering managers) and a extended group of up to 30+ engineers.
Partner Engineering Team
Partner engineers are responsible for enabling and supporting the successful delivery of outsourced requirements across partners and internal stakeholders: ensuring technical requirements are properly defined; dependencies and risks identified and addressed; development workflows and collaboration processes supportive; and enable the development of tools and services for successful partner integration.
Solution Delivery Team
You will be managing a team delivering on customer projects, building web applications for operational planning, tactical training, and decision support. We are very early in our journey and there are various parts to this that are worth unpacking. These applications allow users to create and design plans for scenarios to be simulated.
Areas for Impact
- You will run a significant segment of our engineering group; two teams at the customer end of our offering. There will be significant opportunity to grow out
- You will grow successful senior engineers and engineering managers through collaborative development planning, coaching, and empowerment through strategic goals
- You will proactively develop and promote top performers, particularly growing Principal Engineers and Engineering Managers.
- You will play a key role in performance reviews and promo reviews, creating the necessary structure and environment to set your teams up for success
- You will have a strategic input, while retaining an appropriate level of hands-on management. You empower your managers and engineers to independently execute. You provide context and visibility into the reasoning behind decisions.
- You are able to decompose complex problems into straight-forward solutions. You consistently bring strong, data-driven business and technical judgment to decisions.
- You understand the functionality, architecture, business drivers, and technologies behind the products and systems you own. You collaborate with EMs and Senior SWEs/Principals to determine the long-term viability of your software architecture, both from a business and technology standpoint.

- You an experienced senior engineering manager with a clear focus on managing the development and growth of software engineers. You ascribe to the idea of servant-leadership and are motivated by the success of your teams.
- You have led high-performing, happy teams building complex modern software with particular influence over product strategy and delivery.
- You have an excellent track record of customer and/or partner facing stakeholder engagement.
- You have spent a proportion of your career as an engineer, leveraging that knowledge to coach and develop your reports.
- You consistently bring strong, data-driven business and technical judgment to decisions and clearly communicate trade offs and decisions to your team.
- You are an empathetic communicator who can navigate tricky situations, having tough conversations where necessary, and being objective and structured in your approach to all personnel matters.
