Senior Director of Engineering, Growth & Premium Products

The Premium Products team at Discord builds and operates our paid subscription products and inspires revenue growth at the company. Our mission is to create a premium offering that every Discord user will want to subscribe to and build a multi-billion-dollar business that respects our user's privacy and trust (Discord does not serve ads).

We're looking for a Senior Director of Engineering to join us and lead our growth and premium product engineering teams. You will responsible for creating a vision, creating a strategy, building a inspired team, systems, and features, ideating creative solutions to large-scale, international social network problems, and growing Discord's revenue to help fund our mission for decades to come.

What you'll do

• Be part of the engineering Leadership team (alongside product, design, analytics, and cross-functional leaders), responsible for defining the future of how we scale as a distributed engineering organization.
• Lead from the front, prioritize, and lead the larger mission forward by setting long term strategy and translating vision into results.
• Play a central role in the definition and execution of an evolving multi-business monetization approach, including leading the team through enterprise growth.
• Work with the team to establish and refine a global growth strategy, using a mix of organic, paid and unpaid acquisition channels.
• Structure the organization and improve it for execution, including attracting top-tier talent, nurturing existing talent, and filling out gaps in the existing team quickly to accommodate growth.
• Build and lead an organization with user/customer focus, world-class quality, with a focus on focussed solutions, quick and constructive resolutions to conflicts, and a "no barriers" mentality.
• Serve as a community builder for the team and overall culture.
• Use technical judgment to guide project delivery and technology reviews, challenge proposals, and build conviction.
• Solve cross-functional and inter-team challenges and partner with all departments across the company to ensure successful outcomes and happy teams.
• Continue to improve the thriving engineering culture across all tech functions.

Who you are

• Deep experience in software engineering and management with demonstrated ability to lead and manage large teams.
• Experience in an established, large scale consumer product company/business.
• A skilled communicator with experience driving results and collaboration across teams with complex dependencies.
• Experience moving technical or engineering programs from concept to completion and experience explaining the impact using metrics, growth examples, Return on investment etc.
• Consistent record of shaping technology strategy and building upon that vision.
• Experience with scale with emphasis on Reliability, Efficiency, Scalability.
• Care about building a diverse and transparent organization.
• Can break down complex challenges into workable components and make progress towards solving a problem vs. trying to boil the ocean.
• You ask difficult questions while being collaborative.
• You're comfortable working with partners and executive leadership to represent your team and the roadmap.

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant technical experience.
• Entrepreneurial experience building businesses.
• Prior experience working in a Monetization / Growth executive or leadership role.
