Senior Director, Product

Scopely is seeking a Senior Director, Product with a passion for crafting and expanding enduring games to join our MAX Division! We are ideally looking to have this person work remotely within Spain or the UK.
What You’ll Do:
The Senior Director, Product will be the advocate for the target audience experience that leads to creating a $100M+ new game casual F2P franchise - craft, own and evangelize the product strategy. This person will be key in successfully bringing this new game to market using a disciplined and creative combination of data analytics, player insights and relevant application of F2P principles and mechanics that drive engagement, retention, monetization and ultimately, LTV.
Business Opportunity
- Lead all forecasting, modeling and P&L work in collaboration with your Product team, the GM and your Financial Business Partner
- Be a lead partner with the company’s Slate Development Group as we move through the greenlight process
Vision - set the product direction in collaboration with the Head of Design; use data to drive the strategy
- Set the game experience and performance KPIs and enroll all colleagues on the path to deliver
- Define and value the Product Roadmap, collaborating with your team and Design, Tech, Art, QA, Production colleagues; refine and pivot based on data and what’s best for the business and player experience
- Own the game economy and monetization strategies
- Own the responsibility of deciding what to build and in what order to build it, then translate that to the entire team’s sprint goals
- Be the mentor, guide and final decision maker on product requirements, implementation and experience acceptance criteria
- Deliver the game experience that is proven to be compelling to the target audience in a way that is genre leading, leapfrogs the incumbents, is compellingly differentiated and has highly engaging mass market appeal
- Work collaboratively with the Head of Design and the Design team to craft the game design to meet player motivations and business KPI requirements
- Lead the game refinement getting it ready for soft launch based on your own experience, casual games best practices, and importantly actual player behavior/experience from limited in-market tests and qualitative discussions and playtests
- Establish a strong partnership with Data Analytics ensuring an environment of continuous learning resulting in material game performance improvements and as input to product and roadmap strategy
- Creatively problem solve leveraging product requirements, design, technology, time, cost constraints and KPI targets
- Partner with Player Insights and lead the development of an insights Roadmap that provides you and the team with the information you need to continue to feel confident in the product vision and execution
People and Organization
- Recommend and evolve the Product team structure and size as development moves into different stages leading to Worldwide Launch
- Coach and develop your direct reports ensuring that there are development plans and career progression options for each individual
- Welcome the opportunity to mentor others
- As a critical member of the Studio Executive team, contribute at a high impact level to overall Studio direction and health; guide and inform the overall Studio culture and processes and ensure we’re utilizing our talented people in the best ways possible
About You:
- You’re a seasoned Head of Product with a track record of new game development and running F2P games with commercial success (or you understand why a game wasn’t successful and can apply those learnings)
- You embrace the player’s journey through your game and define the product goals and KPIs that maximize players’ enjoyment and engagement as they move deeper and deeper into the game; your product strategies facilitate players progressing in the game to drive LTV; you believe in purposeful design and collaboration between Product, Design, Tech, Art, QA and Production
- You consider yourself a master of all aspects of Product Management (i.e. Product Experience Strategy, Engagement, Retention, Monetization, Economy, Player Lifecycle, Roadmap development, Backlog Grooming/Prioritization, AB/Multivariate testing, Player Insights, etc)
- You love to leverage multiple game systems and mechanics in new ways to exceed the target audience’s expectations resulting in higher LTV
- Ideally you embrace the female casual game player and want to create the best entertainment for her
- You believe and trust in the combination of data, experience and instinct
- You embrace decision making, clarity, transparency and inherent trust in others as some of the best ways to work and build team health and performance
- You understand and embrace that we’re here to make entertainment and deliver company revenue and profit expectations
- You have experience in the very interesting intersection of casual F2P games with deep meta systems and mid-core strategies
- You’re excited to mentor a team on user-centered design principles and their effective use
- You’re happy to get your hands dirty and help out where needed to get the job done
- You’re committed to learning & growing by fully embracing the true results & data even if things didn’t turn out the way we hope or expect
- You thrive in an environment that uses data to evaluate the efficacy of work and use data to learn how to do better; AB and multivariate testing
- You have excellent people skills and collaborating with others towards a common goal is your de facto way of getting things accomplished
- You’re a critical and nimble thinker and encourage others to think critically about their own, the team’s and your work
- You have a successful track record of both new game development and live game operations
- You know how to successfully adapt Scrum and Agile principles to fit team culture and to improve productivity and create an environment of job satisfaction
- 7+ years in the games industry (free to play games and mobile games experience strongly preferred) in a game design and/or system design capacity
- 3+ years experience managing designers of various experience levels and design specialty areas. You have extensive management experience and know how to delegate, grow and mentor savvy designers and people
- P&L and modeling experience
