Senior Director, Engineering & Platform ArchitectureSummary
The Senior Director, Engineering & Platform Architecture will evaluate, establish, and optimize software teams, software processes, technologies and other policies which will govern the department. The Senior Director is responsible for supporting the business to deliver best of breed Aristocrat hardware and software products. Targeted responsibilities include developing a strong product culture, fostering cross-group communication and collaboration, creating agile cross-product development methods, and keeping focus on consistent, excellent development across the product line. The primary product responsibility of this role is to complete, improve, and maintain ownership of the core architecture of our latest .Net/C# based software platform. To be successful you will need to fully support the existing product teams, make recommendations on product improvement, manage necessary change, direct any necessary refactoring of existing software, and own the future product upgrade path. The ideal candidate is a .Net expert, has a strong architecture and development background, and has excellent C# skills.What you'll do
- Direct the production of software platforms, software architecture, development and integration of firmware, integration of vendor peripherals, and special signage/top boxes.
- Lead a team of design verification, platform tool development, manufacturing development, game development, and hardware and software test engineers through all phases of product development.
- Cooperate, create, and manage project plans including performance metrics, work break down structure, resources, schedule, dependencies and overall management of development risk. Lead and drive trade-offs and remove barriers to ensure the team can deliver.
- Employ strong leadership skills to recruit, build, and grow a world-class team of product experts.
- Foster strong teamwork environment and create passion and energy within the team. Build and motivate a high-performing development team through rewards, recognition and meeting key milestones. Assesses training needs and selects training tools for team members.
- Set key OKR Performance Objectives for individuals. Develop and coach team members through regular one-on-ones.
- Drive the development process across a distributed team with multiple cross-group dependencies.
- Evokes creative and innovative thinking from team members while helping them to bring their ideas and career plans to fruition.
- Recognize necessary software improvements and make suggestions to Directors and Team Leads.
- Ensures that managers are monitoring, analysing, and evaluating quality and performance, and resolving identified problem areas.
- Helps to determine new, creative ways to employ teams on projects and distribute responsibilities. Possess the expert knowledge to identify opportunities for change and the ability to convey the need for change.
- Drive improvements to Aristocrat’s Quality Roadmap – improving test execution framework, developing a scalable test tool environment, and identifying initiatives to improve translation of customer requirements to product performance metrics.
- Develop systems, processes, and quality control measures to ensure compliance with production requirements and “first time right” delivery of products to customers.
- Collaborate effectively with Quality Assurance, Global Supply Chain, Technical Publications, Project Office, and counterparts in our Australian HQ to strategically trade-off time and product scope, skilfully execute on milestones, and ensure technical alignment.
- Research solutions and work with other technical staff to resolve customer concerns as necessary.
- Work with management at all levels to develop budgets and forecasts for the business and provide project leadership in achieving those financial commitments.
- Provide timely advice to Sr Vice President, D&D and other assigned divisional VPs, Chief Technology Officer, and Senior Executive Management with respect to profit and loss, capital, and forecasting. The tools to be used include detailed P&L, capital tracking and payroll reporting, and other tools as developed over time.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or its equivalent. Master’s degree is preferable.
- Requires a minimum of twelve years of solid technical experience, which included at least five years’ experience in contributing to full product lifecycles (vision, definition, successful release/deployment). Experience with game design, development, release, and deployment is desirable.
