Senior Developer Advocate

Discord asks the world to Imagine a Place. However, our users don't just have to imagine - they get to build that place, too. The Apps & API team is the bridge that lets users move from imagining a place to experiencing it. Whether you're an admin looking for help moderating your server or a user looking for new ways to interact with your friends, Discord apps and bots can enhance that experience to the next level.

We’re looking for a Developer Advocate that can help us grow and support a community with hundreds of thousands of developers around the world as they create new ways to share experiences online. An important part of Developer Advocacy at Discord is establishing meaningful relationships with members of our community. You'll build these relationships by engaging with questions and ideas during office hours, by building demos and creating content to highlight new features we ship, and by advocating for the interests and feedback from the community to influence our roadmap for what comes next.

What you'll do

• Above all else, be the voice that inspires us to constantly improve the experience of our developers on Discord
• Promote engagement in our community by creating blog posts, improving documentation, and building anything from inspiring demos to unique first-party apps that showcase Discord's extensibility
• Host community events, lead technical workshops, give talks, and find delightful, unique ways to bring new developers into the Discord developer ecosystem
• Become an expert resource for our developer community by learning about our platform's capabilities and design patterns
• Build tools and processes to measure community engagement, retention, and sentiment
• Work with Engineering, Product, Marketing, and other teams to build new features, improve our developer experiences, and grow the app ecosystem
• Identify opportunities to develop new strategic partnerships, promote unique apps and use-cases, and invest in community-led projects
• Work with the other leads on the Apps & API team to determine how our team can best work with our developer community, including using insights you gather to directly improve our product roadmap

What you should have

• A BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant technical experience
• Ability to discuss or explain technically complicated topics in simple, succinct language
• A understanding of API design principles and development best-practices
• Experience collecting, analyzing and discussing data to set and track performance against goals
• Technical proficiency and effectiveness working with engineers and managers
• A passion for engaging with other builders

Bonus Points

• Experience in a Developer Advocacy or Developer Relations role (or similar)
• Full-stack development experience
• Experience building on Discord
