Senior Data Scientist - Search & Discovery, Avatar Marketplace

WHY AVATAR MARKETPLACE?

As a Data Scientist on Marketplace Search & Discovery, you will be the champion of the user experience – finding ways to improve avatar recommendations for our ever-growing and engaged user base. You will partner with Product Managers and Engineers to create and strategize on new features, signals, and insights to improve our recommendations. You will also design and run experiments to understand the impact of our recommendations on users.

You Are:

• Passionate about data. You use novel techniques and tools to extract value from data.You have a degree in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science or other relevant field.
• A strong communicator. You understand that analysis must be presented in meaningful ways and lead spirited discussions about the findings. You can explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and discuss appropriate tradeoffs.
• A capable statistician. You understand the value of characterizing data by its distribution. Covariance, Bias, and Conditional Probability are concepts that you rely on every day.
• An expert transforming data with SQL and a scripting language such as Python or R. You're experienced in automating efforts and crunching massive volumes of data using big data frameworks such as Spark, Hadoop or Flink.
• Experienced in developing models to draw insights from data. You use regression techniques, data mining, and other statistical techniques to create new, scalable solutions to solve difficult business problems. You understand when to apply the appropriate methodology to maximize impact in a thoughtful fashion.
• Excited about free, scalable coding education. You are excited by the opportunity to engage millions of children and youth in learning programming through play. You enjoy thinking about the levers to engage more players to become developers.

You Will:

• Accelerate product development through your understanding of the underlying data and your ability to partner with product and technical leaders to provide insights that enhance growth
• Access raw data, and then transform it, analyze it, and render it in a compelling way--all using a custom analytics tool kit built from state-of-the-art open-source libraries
• Build dashboards to understand the root causes to changes in metrics
• Accelerate product development through the application of models to enhance growth and improve the product experience
• Evaluate A/B experiments to determine success of product feature launches
• Understand how economic incentives help grow our developer community
• Use analyses / models to find opportunities to improve existing products and identify missing features / products that could further promote value for the community
• Report to one of the Data Science Leaders

Basic Qualifications:

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Financial Mathematics or other technical field
• 4+ years of industry experience in Data Science and Analytics
• 2+ years of experience using big data query/processing languages and tools such as SQL, Hive, Spark and Airflow
• 2+ years of experience in one or more scripting languages such as Python or R

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, or other technical fields
• 2+ years of industry experience in analytics focused on enhancing products and driving innovation
• Experience working with content platforms, specifically user-generated content
• Experience building or mentoring a team from scratch as an individual contributor
• Ability to use analytics results and data storytelling to influence product teams and leaders
• Ability to apply creative first-principles reasoning to solve ambiguous problems
