Senior Data Scientist - Cloud Gaming Analytics
Location: Aliso Viejo, CA
The Business Intelligence and Data Science Enablement team's mission is to provide advanced analytical insights and capabilities to inspire and optimize the future direction of the business. The team consists of a group of industry and methodical experts, all focused on bringing our player's experiences to life.
Through championing a multidisciplinary view of our gamers, we bring the voice of the player to life, representing their choices, behaviors, appetites, aspirations and needs to the decision-makers at PlayStation.
Our team is building an internal self service data platform that encompasses collection, processing, visualization, analysis, anomaly detection, root case and predictive modeling for both qualitative and quantitative data from all our users. We specialize in game streaming telemetry and prepare highly sophisticated analysis with real time intelligence captured to highlight paths of improvement for the quality of experience.
Our active projects include analysis for the cloud gaming experience which includes streaming and launch experience, user behavior profiling, user base segmentation, actionable cluster detection, effective personalized recommendations, lifetime value analysis, capacity management and subscription churn analysis.
As a Senior Data Scientist on our team, you will wield the power of data to enable us to deliver a best-in-class cloud streaming performance and experience to our players across the world.
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain statistical models that allow the cross functional team to understand gamers behaviors, help streamline various processes, detect normal and abnormal patterns and to help improve the product overall.
- Champion and drive Real Time analysis enablement
- Help us discover the information hidden in vast amounts of data, making more thoughtful decisions and contextual relevance in order to deliver even better gaming experience
- Drive improvements in data quality and structure within the data warehouse
- Empower other team members to build and craft impactful telemetry analysis
- Build a data science Platform to productionize research and onboard efficiently new use cases
- Contribute unique, personal ideas that provide insights impacting gaming experience and quality
- Collaborate with other Data Scientists and Analysts on the broader organization to identify standard processes and leverage existing analytical assets
Reasoning Skills:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
- High degree of initiative and ability to learn
Mathematical Skills:
- Fluency in mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and creating meaningful metrics from data at scale within acceptable performance
- Ability to apply concepts such as quantification of data quality, data system performance optimization in practical situations
Computer Skills:
- Proficient in analytical query-writing in SQL
- Experience with Realtime Streaming
- Proficient in a data-analysis programming language such as Python or R
- Demonstrated analytical skills working with large sets of complex data;
- Comfortable with at least one visualization tool such as Looker, Tableau, or MicroStrategy
Tools :
- Snowflake / DBT/ Databricks Experience is a plus
- Knowledge of streaming technologies is a plus.
- Experience with semi structured data (JSON/XML)
- High interest in gaming

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.
$132,600 — $198,800 USD
