Senior Creature Artist

We are Turtle Rock Studios. An award-winning game developer of AAA first person shooters and other games, including the latest co-op shooter franchise, Back 4 Blood . We are located in the heart of Orange County, CA and have team members working remotely throughout North America. We are seeking a Senior Creature Artist responsible for creating high-quality, realistic 3D creature models. The Senior Creature Artist works closely with designers, engineers and artists to create convincing, visually stunning creatures and monsters terrifyingly true to the franchise. We are looking for artists who can thrive in a collaborative environment where the whole team works together for the benefit of all aspects of the game. This position will report to the Lead Character Artists and work closely with the Art Director to establish innovative creatures that are exciting and compelling with the player in mind.
Responsibilities
- Create high-quality 3D character models that are visually appealing, anatomically accurate, and meet the project's technical and aesthetic standards
- Work with the Art Director, Concept team, and Character team to develop high quality assets
- Work with designers, engineers, and other artists in creating memorable creatures and monsters
- Communicate effectively with the team to fulfill the visual goals of game assets
- Use software such as Zbrush, Substance Painter, and Unreal Engine
- Mentor junior character artists and help them develop their skills
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of production experience as a Character Artist for video games
- Provide portfolio that demonstrates expertise in modeling, including hard surface and organic assets
- Experience modeling and texturing using Maya, Zbrush, and Substance Painter; as well as proficiency in 2D art creation/manipulation packages, including but not limited to Photoshop
- An understanding of all current generation production workflows as they pertain to character art production
- Strong understanding of physically-based shaders and rendering
- An understanding of the human form/anatomy and structure/silhouette in respect of modeling
- Ability to create and manipulate texture maps and excellent understanding of the value of UV space
Preferences
- Strong traditional art foundations: including but not limited to figure drawing, concept art and illustration
- A passion for games
- Shipped one or more AAA titles
- Familiarity with source control and asset tracking tools such as Perforce and JIRA a plus

The estimated base pay range for this role is:
$ 105,000 - 150,000 USD
