Senior Combat Designer

CCP London is currently growing our team! We have an exciting opportunity for a talented Combat Designer who is eager to work with us on an unannounced online FPS.

As someone who brings a wealth of combat design skills to the table, you’ll join a highly motivated team of programmers, artists, designers, and QA working to build a varied, fun, and unique user experience for the game. You will create and implement new features for the game’s combat systems, including weapons, and new features.

Working with the analytics team, you will help tune the combat to create fun, exciting, and balanced gameplay.

We are a small close-knit team, so this is a unique opportunity to have a large impact. You will be responsible for owning all aspects of the game’s combat and player experience. You will be a key member of the creative team for the project.

Your tasks:

• Determination to make a fun and engaging player experience • Design, implement, tune, and maintain combat systems, abilities, items, weapons, and player statistics, to make the player experience as fun as possible
• Ownership of the core combat mechanic and specification of associated animation
• Ownership of the development of combat features and improvement efforts, from ideation through delivery to players • Maintain clear and concise documentation for all mechanics, balance, and systems they are responsible for
• Mentor and work with other designers on the Combat team to improve their design, technical, and communication skills
• Validation of all combat design scoping estimates.

Your profile:

• Proven combat design experience on a shipped or live online multiplayer FPS ideally with both PVP and PVE
• An Expert on 3C’s
• Strong understanding and experience in balancing complex interactions between stats, itemisation, and weapons using testing methodologies both within and outside of the game
• Ability to thrive within a collaborative environment, and both give and receive constructive feedback
• A strong ability to think logically and break down complex problems, with a strong focus on attention to detail
• Experience working in an Agile development environment.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with scripting tools or languages
• Experience with UE4/UE5 Blueprints
• Experience building multiple types of combat and non-combat mechanics, weaponry, and gadgets
• Level Design Experience and how combat can be used to make levels come alive!
