That’s No Moon is an independent AAA game development studio established in 2021 by veterans of some of the most recognizable and critically acclaimed creative teams in the world, including Naughty Dog, Infinity Ward, Santa Monica Studio, Bungie, PlayStation, and more. A remote-friendly studio with a central office and performance capture stage located in Los Angeles, That’s No Moon is creating the next generation of narrative-driven, genre-defining experiences built upon a culture of creativity, collaboration, responsible production practices, and individual empowerment. We are assembling a diverse team of passionate developers of a wide range of experience levels and backgrounds to help shape the future of our studio and projects.
We are looking for a Senior Technical Artist specializing in animation production to help build and maintain an efficient pipeline to facilitate both cinematic and gameplay animation into the engine. You will work with hardworking animators and engineers to push the quality and fidelity for next-gen game animation and enable the artists to do their best work.
Responsibilities:
- Support both gameplay and cinematic animation pipelines from performance acquisition across multiple DCC software packages into engine
- Create DCC and Editor tools to streamline animation authoring workflow and improve efficiency while reducing human errors
- Create easy to use tools to empower artists to “make art”
- Work closely with engineering, design, and animation to support creating contents for in-game blend tree and/or motion matching setups
- Work with rigging team and engineers to develop runtime animation features
- Collaborate with other TDs to build a cohesive studio codebase
- Troubleshoot animation issues in game as well as in DCC apps.
- Build/Maintain relevant usage documentation
Requirements & Skills:
- (Required) 5+ years of professional experience as animation TD or tech animator in game, film, or other relevant industries
- (Required) Maya Expertise in areas of animation
- (Required) Strong Python experience in the areas of tools and UI (e.g., PyQt) and Maya Scripting
- (Preferred) Understanding of gameplay and cinematic animation workflows
- (Preferred) Degree in animation or related art and/or technical field
- (Preferred) Experience working with MoCap data
- (Preferred) Experience working with UnrealEngine, Unity, or similar game engine
- (Preferred) Motion Builder and API Experience
- (Bonus) Motion Matching experience and knowledge
- (Bonus) Maya API / Plugin Experience
- (Bonus) Familiarity with Unreal Virtual Production

- Self-motivated and able to find solutions on one's own
- Capable of switching tasks quickly to address emergent production issues in a professional manner
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate issues and risks

- High desire/focus to help making artists' lives better and processes more efficient/scalable, mindful of areas of workflow improvements
