We are looking for an experienced Lead AI Game Designer to join our team and help make exciting, cutting edge games. As a Lead AI Game Designer with Turtle Rock Studios, you will be responsible for maintaining high level design quality across game design disciplines, providing mentorship and coaching to game design team members, designing and developing fun, complex AI interactions, creative and iteration process for AI behaviors and parameters within the game mechanics and game systems, refining gameplay, and creating entertaining experiences for player enjoyment and replayability. You will collaborate closely with Art, Animation, Programming, VFX, and audio team members to help create memorable and fun gameplay experiences. This position will report to the Gameplay Director.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining high level design quality across game design disciplines, while respecting technical limitations and performance targets.
- Provide mentorship and coaching for team members including but not limited to: 1:1s, career developments, performance evaluations, and goal setting.
- Design and develop fun and complex AI interactions from concept to completion
- Design new AI archetypes that cover a dynamic range of intensity and complexity
- Collaborate with Art, Animation, Programming, VFX, and Audio team members to create memorable gameplay experiences
- Brainstorm, pitch, and iterate on game mechanics and game systems for AI behaviors and parameters
- Refine gameplay to create an entertaining experience for player enjoyment and replayability
- Create and maintain designs documents, content briefs, and system outline
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in game development with one or more shipped titles on multiple platforms
- Love of games: specifically FPS, Co-op, and Multiplayer games
- Experience designing AI archetypes that cover a dynamic range of intensity and complexity
- A strong interest in creating an awesome player experience
- Strong technical and problem solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individual
Preferences
- Experience with UE4 and Blueprint
- High quality production sensibilities (cost of features)
- Familiarity with scripting languages and a strong foundation in math
- Knowledge of game design theory, tools pipelines
- Familiarity with development tools such as Perforce, JIRA, and Confluence

The estimated base pay range for this role is: $120,000—$160,000 USD
