Legends of Runeterra (LoR) is our new collectible card game featuring beloved Champions from the League of Legends universe. You will work with teams and features across the entire game to build memorable events and moments, and develop features that challenge genre conventions and evolve the Legends of Runeterra experience.

As a Senior Character Artist on Legends of Runeterra reporting to the Sr. Manager for Art Direction, you will bring champions and creatures to life by creating and texturing high and low poly models. You will help build some of the most iconic characters in the world of gaming. Your sculpting skills, artistic eye and understanding of anatomy, form, and color will lead the way in character creation. Working within both technical and design constraints, you will use your knowledge of proportions, anatomy and readability to ensure models are optimized for the game. You will oversee external outsourcing for 3D models, provide feedback, and support the upholding and sometimes creation of style guides. Your craft expertise and high-level execution will enrich the player’s immersive experience.

Responsibilities

  • You will help guide the look and feel of 3D assets (e.g. humanoids, creatures, general 3D assets)
  • Understand game requirements to influence and create low poly assets that are optimized for deformation and animation
  • Work with multiple materials from hand painted diffuse to physically based rendering workflows
  • Interpret and push concept designs to the next level while taking into account technical and design constraints such as poly count, texture memory limit, and topology
  • Use your sense of human/creature anatomy to push character quality to its fullest potential
  • Communicate with several other disciplines to ensure all assets are performing
  • Give feedback to external vendors about 3D assets, characters, and creatures
  • Mentor future members of the team

Required Qualifications

  • 7 years’ experience working as a professional character artist
  • Experience working with modeling, sculpting and texturing programs such as Maya, Zbrush, Substance, and Photoshop
  • Experience working with different game engines from licensed to proprietary
  • Experience creating hand-painted textures

Desired Qualifications

  • A passion for collectible card games (CCGs)

As a part of the application process, candidates will be expected to provide a portfolio or demo reel of their work and may be asked to complete an art test.
