At Amazon Games, our mission is to be the most player and partner-obsessed company in gaming. We’re supported by Amazon to pursue bold creative visions, ‘find the fun’ in our products, ship only when ready, and create extraordinary growth opportunities globally and across all platforms.

We believe in a future where everyone is a gamer and everyone can create, compete, collaborate and connect through games, and we are looking for the right people to help us build that future.

Key job responsibilities
This position is based in Seattle and reports directly to the head of External Studios QA at Amazon Games. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to influence long term growth of the QA organization. This position entails leading the testing effort of one of more titles from start to finish – establishing test strategy, test planning, test execution, tooling and automation initiatives, leading a diverse team of full-time QAE’s, contract testers and/or outsourced vendors, reporting project status and signing off on the release criteria. As a Quality Manager, you will have the opportunity to partner with other disciplines and represent Amazon Games to our various partners.

The main difference from other Sr. Test Lead roles is that at Amazon Games Studios you will: get involved earlier and make a greater impact on projects; be in a position to help design and define our quality assurance standards from the ground up; and be challenged to step beyond merely testing and truly affect overall quality (i.e., quality assurance). It’s an exciting responsibility and a great opportunity for the right candidate.

Basic qualifications
• 5+ years of overall software QA/development experience.
• 5+ years of experience testing across a variety of platforms (PC, Consoles, mobile, etc.).
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent combination of technical education and work experience.
• Knowledge of QA methodology and tools, software testing standards, methods and conventions, and the product development cycle.
• Experience shipping at least 1 game/product and supporting a live service post release.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with great attention to detail, critical thinking, solid communication and proven leadership skills, with the ability to track multiple test executions simultaneously and report results. Comfortable communicating cross-functionally and across management levels in formal and informal settings.
• Familiarity with release management and/or community engagement job roles
• Solid understanding of how games and supporting services work
• Passion for and knowledge of games and digital / online entertainment
• Experience in coaching and mentoring full-time junior team members

Preferred qualifications
• Demonstrated experience leading medium to large test teams
• Demonstrated experience developing high quality test plans, test designs, test strategies, automation strategies and leading test execution.
• Creativity and initiative to improve test coverage and effectiveness.
• Experience in scripting, user-level test automation and performing white-box testing.
• Experience with specialized and technical testing. Examples include security, network protocols, multiplayer features, stress and performance testing, or publisher certification.
• Strong reporting skills, ability to surface key information/KPI, leverage analytics/telemetry and produce impactful reports to stakeholders and leadership.
• Experience working with QA vendors as well as Publishing development partners.
• International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) (or equivalent qualification) a plus.

A day in the life
A typical day for this role is to coordinate with QAE’s to ensure the strategy plan is being executed by team members based on current state of the build and requirements of upcoming milestones. This role will guide the efforts of both full time and vendors to develop QA scenarios and execute passes. This person will provide leadership as issues arise which impact the daily/weekly QA efforts. This role will represent QA with franchise/developer partners, to ensure QA strategy, efforts, and reported results are understood.

About the team
This role will be a key member of the senior leadership team of AGS/ External Studios QA, reporting to the Senior QAM and working closely with our franchise team, operations team, the project developer, and vendor service partners. This role will help deliver the team's mission “to connect millions of gamers to each other and our games.” This is a hands-on low-ego team that works closely and collaboratively, with a high degree of mutual trust and support. We dive deep as needed in our titles to ensure our customers get the best experience possible.
