Do you enjoy collaborating on communications strategies with multiple internal stakeholders? Are you an expert building internal relationships to discover the attributes that make our games interesting and standout for media outlets to drive coverage? Do you have relationships with editors and reporters at technology, entertainment, and lifestyle outlets in addition to endemic gaming media? Are you a strong writer that can write for multiple audiences externally, and familiar with setting-up and managing interviews for the developers behind the amazing games we’re entertaining the world with?

If you nodded in the affirmative to all of the above, we’d love to speak with you about a role at Gearbox Publishing where you’d be a key member of the Communications team that will be consistently lead the charge in sharing how the company will be entertaining the world over the months and years ahead.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop PR campaigns and strategies for published titles in coordination with the Social Media, Community Manager, and Influencer Marketing leads for those titles.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with priority press.
  • Monitor and track relevant PR coverage that is fed back into the Communications team’s overall analytics and reporting database.
  • Serve as a first-line contact for incoming press inquiries and requests for Gearbox Publishing’s games.
  • Serve as a lead for internal teams participating in public speaking or other, non-press communications opportunities in support of Gearbox Publishing’s games.
  • Provide on-site and/or remote support for events where Gearbox Publishing employees will be attending and engaging with the press or public.

Qualifications:

  • 3-4 years of experience either in at a PR agency, in-house PR role, or media outlet.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience developing proactive, compelling, and creative communications plans and materials.
  • Existing media relationships in the video game, technology, and entertainment spaces.
  • Must be highly collaborative and have the ability work within a multi-channel team encompassing the full range of communications channels (social platforms, content creators, online forums)
  • Provide consistent guidance and message training to internal stakeholders, including senior executives.
  • Identify and provide both virtual and on-site support for video game industry events globally.
  • Live and breathe press conversations and coverage on gaming, spot trends to share with internal stakeholders and identify opportunities for Gearbox secure opportunistic (i.e., non-announcement-related) stories.

Bonus Points For:

  • Prior experience in either the video game industry or an industry adjacent to it
  • Experience working with an external agency partner (if coming from an in-house role)
  • Has previous experience working on AAA products at a gaming publisher, developer, or agency.
  • Knowledgeable about Gearbox-owned IPs (Borderlands, Brothers in Arms, Risk of Rain, Duke Nukem, Homeworld, among others).
