Production Director [Far Cry Brand] (f/m/d)
Job Description
As a Production Director, you will report to the local Producer and you will own the execution strategy for the mandate of the Berlin team. The project is led by another studio but the mandate and its execution are owned locally.
At Ubisoft Berlin, we consider the Producer as the “CEO of the project” and the Production Director as the “COO of the project” (Chief Operating Officer). Through a servant leadership mindset, they are responsible for the success of their team and their long-term health. While we expect them to embody our culture and enable the strategy of the studio, they also benefit of a maximum of autonomy and support for the development of their team. We expect our Producers and Production Directors to be well-rounded leaders with the highest standards who can embrace a bottom-up approach and scale it.
Further responsibilities include:
- Master of project management methods and processes: You support every feature team of the project by helping them to create their own project management methods and processes. You balance the needs for uniformity with the needs for specific solutions. You coach the teams to always embrace a self-management attitude and the leanest approach.
- Own the execution strategy for the project: You build the high-level strategy (roadmap, priorities, risks management, staffing…) to enable the team to converge and ship the project with the highest quality in a sustainable manner. You consult the other directors and involve your production team to ensure the buy-in from all parts of the team.
- Define project team structure, roles & responsibilities: To ensure the team is working as smoothly and efficient as possible, with the least possible overhead, you drive the definition of the project team structure, including the different roles & responsibilities. You embrace the idea of cross-disciplines autonomous teams and keep the complexity of dependencies at a minimum.
- Lead & Mentor the Production Team: You lead the Production Team (Associate Producers, Project Coordinators, and Project Assistants) and ensure they grow towards fulfilling careers in line with the standards of the Studio. You mentor them by giving them the support they need individually (expertise, diplomacy, emotional…). You give them guidance continuously while respecting their autonomy.
- Champion mediation: When the team encounters roadblocks and cannot find alignment, you support them by helping them to find common ground and a shared way forward. This applies inside the team but also with external partners (administrative team, lead studio, outsourcers, etc…). You gracefully handle stakeholders in a constructive manner while still protecting the team as your first priority.
Qualifications
- You have a strong expertise in modern project management theories (Agile, Lean, DevOps…). You are used to handle budget forecast and its monitoring. Bonus: You have experience in the development of a “Game-as-a-Service” product, you understand its impact on the development methods, the technology and the team.
- You have a process oriented mindset but you understand that the right amount of process is “just enough, not even slightly more”.
- You are a persistent and pragmatic problem solver: you do not give up until a sustainable solution is found and is in line with the agreed culture and standards.
- You thrive in a fast paced and highly complex environment. You are not easily overwhelmed and you can work on several complex situations at the same time. You are able to take decision with limited information while also understanding you do not need to make all decisions or even need to agree with all decisions.
- You strive to build a sustainable environment where continuous improvements and high performances are key. You understand when it is meaningful to prioritize short term over long term but you always build for the decade ahead.
- You have strong people skills built-in with a servant leadership mindset. You always prioritize others over yourself and you put yourself on the line to protect your team but you also know when authority is required. You know that to make your authority meaningful you have to use it in an extremely sparse manner.
- You have all-around excellent communication skills. You practice active listening; you listen to understand, not to answer. You are equally comfortable in writing and verbal communication. You can moderate meeting to keep them efficient and know when to steer yourself and when to be forgotten. You can present plans and vision in front of a large audience in an engaging way.
- You have the experience of AAA multiplatform development with projects involving complex and medium to large sized team structures. You have gone through all development phases from conception to release/post-release and shipped several AAA projects in a Production position.
We aim to have a wide and diverse range of profiles within our studio; thus, we are looking forward to being surprised by your application. The most important quality for us is to be a strong team player with a resilient and positive attitude.
