Team Name:
Unannounced ProjectJob Title:
Producer, Game TechnologyRequisition ID:
R015165Job Description:
How would it feel to have your products and tools be a key component in the development process of every Blizzard game? Are you a passionate producer and an all-around good person looking to support creative people building amazing technology? Do you dream of a world where people are free to be creative while the machines handle the grind? Does efficiency, standardization when and where it makes sense, and sprawling projects where you can impose order to the chaos sound like fun? Join us to tackle challenging problems!
Blizzard Core Technology is developing new libraries, products, and processes to share across all of Blizzard and power the future of Blizzard games. You’ll work with a collaborative team of experienced and highly skilled developers who are working with individuals across the company to deliver some truly epic technology.
We’re looking for a Producer to coordinate projects within our Game Technology team and across the entirety of Blizzard engineering. Concretely, the work will involve both transversally managing engineering leaders across the company to successfully execute on cross-team initiatives and directly driving the day-to-day work of dedicated engineers.
An ideal candidate will have a technical background, the ability to quickly ramp up and participate in engineering conversations on new technologies, and a keen eye for introducing and refining processes so that they streamline workflows instead of slowing folks down. No less important, candidates must also be emotionally intelligent, possess strong communication skills, and have an appreciation for diversity in all contexts. Help us build a better Blizzard in more ways than one!
Covid-19 Hiring Update: We’re currently in a work-from-home model, and we’re continuing to interview and hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position but will transition to at least a partial in-office position based out of Irvine, CA. We understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible interim options.
Responsibilities
- Tactically and strategically support the team developing new shared technology solutions.
- Own the day-to-day execution of cross-Blizzard engineering initiatives (ranging in scope from cool new technologies to new and improved processes).
- Communicate with stakeholders to drive engagement and adoption of these initiatives.
- Generate coherent, clear, planning artifacts that are easy to consume and tailored to the project.
- Identify when and why processes aren’t working. Always ask how to do more with less.
- Drive decision making and alignment at all levels: from individual engineers to directors & VPs.
- Influence senior people across the company, often without direct authority.
- Identify and eliminate risks and blockers. Communicate project status to interested parties.
- Create urgency and momentum for projects that may not have a firm deadline.
Requirements
- Experience working with engineers.
- Strong technical background with a proven ability to pick up detailed knowledge quickly.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability in identifying and tackling problems, even when outside your immediate area of responsibility.
- Able to develop long-term relationships across partner teams anywhere within the organization.
- Knowledge of software development processes and project management foundations.
- Precise, detail-oriented, and deliberate in your actions. Be able to explain the reasoning behind any choice you make.
- Able to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively under important deadlines.
- Calm and deliberate, especially when the environment around you is dynamic and fast-paced.
- Able to take “what if…” blue-sky ideas and turn them into actions and turn actions into results.
- Emotionally intelligent and self-aware in all personal interactions.
Philosophies & Values
We’re looking for someone who…
- Values their own time, and cares about efficiency in their own work.
- Can navigate massive amounts of potential work without getting overwhelmed, while still maintain a healthy work/life balance.
- Does the right thing, even when it’s difficult.
- Proactively seeks out thoughts from those who aren’t the first to speak up.
- Values diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- Strives to learn from the knowledge and experiences of those around them.
Pluses
- Experience with successful or unsuccessful attempts to standardize or share technology at a large organization.
- Experience working regularly with engineers at high levels of seniority.
- Experience producing tech with huge numbers of stakeholders with conflicting needs.
- Interest and ability in flexing into all areas of project, program, and product management as needed for the problem you’re trying to solve.
- Ability to read code (especially C++).
- Experience w/ the Atlassian product suite.
