Platform Engineer

At SuperAwesome, platform engineers' primary role is to accelerate software development by building reliable and scalable infrastructure platform. As the company is growing rapidly, the environment is fast-paced which brings a lot of interesting and ever-changing challenges.

What would an average day look like?

Here are a few things that we have solved, are currently working on, or will solve in the next few months. If you want to have an idea of what you would work on, give them a try:

• How would you scale a service receiving up to 300,000rps?
• How would you reduce the boilerplate code when creating a new service?
• How would you safely roll out changes to dozens of clusters in a staggered but fully automated way?
• How would you manage thousands of secrets across hundreds of services?

In this role you will:

• Design and implement self-healing, reliable and scalable infrastructure platform in a cloud-native environment
• Drive complex infrastructure changes with a fantastic level of transparency and communication, with zero down-time
• Train other software engineers on best practices for infrastructure management
• Define SLOs and error quotas for services destined to run in production
• Ensure effectiveness and reliability of our systems and be a critical part of our dev-ops culture, including participation in our out-of-hours on-call rota.
• Ensure long-term scalability and maintainability of our infrastructure as well as smooth integration with the wider Epic Platform

This role is ideal for somebody who wants to work with cutting-edge cloud infrastructure at scale, and be part of a team always open to new ways of working. The ideal candidate will be passionate about automation and making infrastructure more effective. We are looking for candidates with

• Good understanding of microservices architecture principles
• Exposure to AWS or another cloud provider
• Good understanding of Terraform or another Infrastructure as Code technology
• Good understanding of Docker and container orchestration
• Experience with services lifecycle, monitoring and CI/CD
• Experience with any programming language, either OO or functional
• Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases

Our products have a global reach, which means that everything we design has to take this into account. Our infrastructure is deployed in multiple AWS regions and it has to stay fast and reliable at all times.

We always try to solve problems at the right level of the stack, so you will have opportunities to develop both development and operations skills.

You will also be encouraged to invest in yourself and keep learning new things. We offer a development budget of £400 per year and dedicate 1 day every sprint to learning: you can choose a course or do a project interesting to you. We also have hack days to disconnect from the day to day and explore new technologies and techniques.
