Outsourcing Art Lead, Hearthstone

Pull up a chair and join us by the hearth! The Hearthstone team is looking for an experienced and inspiring art leader to join our Outsourcing Team. As a key member of the Hearthstone art leadership group, you will work alongside our Art Director as a key contributor in the coordination and development of outsourced art content for the charming and colorful world of Hearthstone. As an experienced leader, you are comfortable with providing detailed and thoughtful art feedback to both external artists as well as internal art supervisors. In addition to reinforcing the art style and direction of Hearthstone, you are comfortable creating paintovers and contributing content that helps to reinforce the visual benchmarks of the game. In addition, you will function as a key point of contact for peers in design as well as production.

DAY TO DAY TASKS

• Work with the Art Director to reinforce and align the artistic development and expansion of Hearthstone.
• Coordinate with Art Leads to ensure consistency of quality and vision across the breadth of outsourced art content.
• Conduct regular reviews and send feedback on the art and technical quality of vendor submissions. Clarify art direction by creating paintovers that help convey the artistic and stylistic goals of the Hearthstone IP.
• Work directly with Outsource Supervisors to provide timely feedback and course-correction to achieve the team’s goals for content delivery.
• Partner with Outsourcing Art Manager to monitor the career growth and creative fulfillment of the outsourcing team.
• Collaborate directly to reinforce existing partnerships with external vendors as well as identify new partners for the future.
• Clarify art direction by creating paintovers that help convey the artistic and stylistic goals of the Hearthstone IP.
• Actively collaborate with the Art Director, Art Leads, and Designers to solve creative problems with both artistic insight and pragmatism. Ensure that briefs and objectives are clear and consistent.
• Partner with the Production team to ensure schedules and plans meet project and business needs. Assist in the development of long-range planning by providing estimates and updates.
• Build and maintain vendor relationships. Where possible, ensure that vendors are trained on workflows and best practices.

YOUR BACKGROUND

• Significant experience directly managing the creation of illustrations and/or concept art.
• Experience authoring asset briefs and reviewing submissions.
• You have proven yourself in a leadership capacity as a Lead Artist, Supervisor, or Art Director on at least one shipped AAA game (or related product)
• Experience building relationships with internal and external stakeholders while successfully delivering content within budget and time constraints.
• Genuinely enjoys working with a diverse group of experienced and talented developers
• Takes initiative to identify and solve problems with excellent follow through
• Thrives in a collaborative work culture
• Comfortably engages in creative conflicts to help find the best possible solution
• Works closely with game design to ensure art enhances the desired player experience
• Ability to explore and execute Hearthstone’s unique and charming art style.

PLUSES

• Experience working with international partners in an outsourcing capacity.
• Experience in Unity or relevant experience in the mobile game space
• Experience playing Hearthstone or other digital card games
• Good technical chops and the ability to quickly master new pipelines and tools
