Job Description
Magic Leap Inc. is seeking an Automation Engineer who can develop software and hardware solutions required to operate advanced optical equipment. As an optical automation Engineer, you will be part of a small team developing systems for Magic Leap’s Waveguide and Eyepiece test equipment.. Qualified candidates need to be detail oriented, self-starting, and independent. Experience with optical measurement, opto-mechanics, precision control systems, SW development, and writing test procedures is a plus.
This role is based on our Austin, TX office and will require you to come into our office regularly.
Responsibilities:
- Design, assemble, program, and verify performance of specialized optical metrology tools and imaging systems including software automation control.
- Identify and document user requirements by conferring with internal Engineering, Process, and Customers
- Analyze and troubleshoot new optical metrology tools, run repeatability tests, and report statistical results
- Create and update operator guides, technical service support manuals and training literature
- Domestic travel as required (expected to be less than 10% of your time)
Qualifications:
- A background in test automation and creating custom optical test systems preferably with equipment APIs and Automation (Python, Matlab, LabView etc.) Familiarity with revision control systems such as git is preferred.
- Experience in optical metrology methods and instrumentation including camera and imaging systems strongly preferred.
- Interest and/or experience in Mechatronics. Some college level course work in robotics and motion controls preferred.
- Strong understanding of coding process, documentation, standards and maintainability
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Optical Engineering, Software, Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Engineering

US Base Salary Range
$123,000 — $172,000 USD
