Optical Engineering Intern - Summer 2020
Responsibilities
- Characterize optical components within the optical stack of a spatial computing display system.
- Characterize eyepiece performance based on KPIs such as efficiency, MTF, and color uniformity
- Build benchtop test systems for the rapid characterization of prototype components. Types of characterization include transmission, haze, diffraction efficiency, ghost and artifact path efficiency, color point shift, etc.
- Analyze results, summarize and document findings, present results
- Collaborate with design engineers to root-cause problems
Qualifications
- MATLAB, Python, LabView programming experience
- Experience using basic optical and electrical lab components (Lasers, LEDs, optical relays, photo-detectors, spectrum analyzers, etc.)
- Familiar with methods of statistical analysis (JMP experience preferred)
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information
- Experience with optical modeling tools such as Zemax, Lumerical, COMSOL, or others is preferred
Education
- 2+ years in relevant Engineering/Physics University program
- Pursuing an MS/PhD in relevant Engineering/Physics University program is preferred
