Narrative Sequence Designer
3 years ago
Job Description
Ubisoft Milan is looking for a Narrative Sequence Designer to join our team in the production of a compelling AAA title. The role of the Narrative Sequence Designer is to create cinematic sequences using our in-engine tools, with the purpose to create cinematic inserts that counterpoint and enrich the gameplay experience.
The candidate must constantly deal with several constraints, since these sequences happen in-engine, real-time rendered, not pre-rendered: the gameplay context, the level design scene space, the visual resources need to be perfectly understood to create a cinematic sequence that empowers the game flow rather than hampering it. The task requires a constant, proactive, relentless iteration with several members of the whole development team to keep it aligned to the overall creative vision.
In particular, at Ubisoft Milan the Narrative Sequence Designer will help the Narrative Director in the creation of a narrative experience - as envisioned by the Creative Director. This includes documenting, testing and implementing the cut-scenes in game as well as pairing up with the Game Design team (Quest Designers in particular) to ensure consistency between design and narration and participating in the communication of the narrative experience to the rest of the production team.
Responsibilities:
- Help building the cut-scenes of the game starting from cinematic synopses;
- Understand the elements of gameplay and consider how they might affect the development of the cut-scenes;
- Formalize, document and update the progress on the implementation, according to the principles established by the Narrative Director;
- Use our internal tools to design, integrate and debug specific features and assets for the cut-scene events;
- Throughout the production, make necessary changes to the cut-scenes as arising from feedbacks, to allow for a constant support of the narrative experience in order to achieve the desired player experience;
- Support other cut-scene design, narrative, and lore needs of the game, as needed or directed.
- Support cut-scene design needs of other departments, as required or directed.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in the videogame industry;
- A minimum of one shipped project in a narrative sequence design role;
- Mastery of the rules of cut-scenes and the craft of cinematic design;
- Professional experience using “sequence editor” kind of tools such as Unreal Sequencer or Unity Timeline;
- Creative solutions for overcoming limitations and roadblocks;
- An extreme concern for quality;
- Great attention to detail;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- Impeccable English, both written and oral.
