Narrative Game Designer (6 month contract)

We are seeking a skilled Narrative Designer to join our team and work on our exciting new IP-based cozy game.

**Qualified applicants will be asked to provide writing samples and perform a writing test.

What You’ll Do:

• Work closely with the creative team to develop engaging narratives, memorable characters, and rewarding quests.
• Create characters with depth, personality, and relatability, ensuring they resonate with players.
• Design and implement compelling quests that enhance the player experience and drive engagement.
• Write heartwarming stories that are communicated through dialogue that ranges from funny to poignant.
• Write for narrative in a linear and non-linear progression.
• Work closely with the art team in visualizing characters and expressions.
• Collaborate with the design team to tutorialize the game through quests that are tied to the story.
• Playtest your writing in-game to ensure quality.
  
  

What You Bring:

• 2+ years experience in either Narrative Design, Game Writing, Script Writing, Screenwriting or equivalent.
• Strong proofreading and copywriting skills
• Strong understanding of story structures, character psychology, and quest design.
• Proficiency in narrative design tools and software.
• Familiarity with Unity game engine.
• Creative thinker with meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently while also thriving in a team environment.
• Candidates will be asked to provide writing samples.
  
  

Nice To Have:

• Experience with scripting or programming languages.
• Enjoyment and keeping up-to-date with children's books and cartoons.
• Passion for telling stories about friendship and belonging.
• Curiosity and understanding of how emotions relate to the unconscious mind.
• Familiarity with inkle.
• A considerable amount of time spent playing cozy games like Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley.

Please note, we are working with a hybrid model with in-office work 2 days a week, therefore only local Vancouver-area candidates will be considered. The salary range is $70-85k, based on experience. This is a 6 month contract with the possibility of extension.
