Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager of Accounting to oversee all transactional accounting activities for Skillz in the areas of revenue, cost of revenue, accounts payable, procurement, payroll/wages, wage-related expenses/accruals, and their related internal controls.

Key competencies:

Accounting competency

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing highly efficient accounting policies, SOPs, and a strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, including system implementations or conversions. Must have the mindset and ability to push back on other managers throughout a growing organization to implement and uphold internal controls.

Reporting competency

Must have competence in preparing financial reports/analyses and working with internal/external auditors to resolve inquiries. Understanding financial statement positioning of accounting transactions (e.g., knowing when to book prepaid expenses, accruals, income statement vs. balance sheet).

Technical competency

Must have a solid understanding of the accounts payable, payroll, share-based compensation, procurement, and revenue-cycle processes, along with their impact on financial statements. Must have the confidence to question the integrity and purpose of accounting transactions and understand the consequences of non-compliance with Company policy (e.g., sign-offs/delegations of authority, support documentation, business necessity, pricing reasonableness).

Systems competency

Systems proficiency with NetSuite or a comparable software package. Demonstrated knowledge in automating manual accounting processes (e.g., travel expenses, procure-to-pay) up to integration with the general ledger.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience with full-charge ownership/supervision of accounts payable, payroll, share-based compensation, and preparation of monthly journal entries (accruals), demonstrated by a step-by-step close process for accounts payable/procurement and payroll.
• Minimum 4+ years of experience as a manager within an Accounting function, preferably in a mid-cap ($200 million to $500 million annual revenue) or larger company.
• Minimum of 7+ years of relevant operational accounting experience with a mixture of experience in different industries (gaming experience is a plus, but not required).
• Minimum of 5+ years working with external and/or internal auditors (knowing when to push back on auditors when needed, for instance - volume of audit samples).
• CPA preferred, but not required.
• Knowledge of NetSuite or other comparable general ledger systems.
• Public accounting experience and/or knowledge of sales and use tax is a plus.
