Manager, 3D Character Art - League, Champions

As a Manager of Character Art on League’s Champions team , you will manage a team of Character Artists and oversee the development and growth of the team. You will lean on your years of experience to help build some of the most iconic characters in the world of gaming. Your sculpting skills, artistic eye and understanding of anatomy, form, and color will lead the way in character creation. You will work in a highly collaborative environment with an iterative process to ensure that each piece of content from Riot reaches the level of quality players deserve . Work may vary from new champions, supporting assets, and visual updates for existing champions. You will work closely with Product Leads, Delivery Leads, Stakeholders to stay aligned on vision and priorities. Using your craft expertise and high-level collaboration, you’ll work as a holistic team (discipline and initiative) to deliver immersive and enriching experiences to players. You will report into the Associate Art Director for League's Gameplay initiative.
Responsibilities:
- Drive the artistic benchmark and asset production for upcoming Champions and visual updates
- Run and manage healthy and productive craft review sessions, while maintaining a high craft bar
- Manage, mentor and support career growth of all direct reports.
- Collaborate with concept, tech art, animation vfx, and narrative, audio, design and engineering teams to creating authentic and iconic champions for the League of Legends IP
- Establish process milestones and workflow guidelines while promoting healthy collaboration between Wild Rift, League’s Personalization group, and the Champion Team.
- Drive the development and documentation for style guides and SOP (standard operating procedure) guidelines
- Maintain open and frequent communication with Production and other craft leads
- Manage hiring, onboarding, offboarding of direct reports as needed
- Manage outsourcing workflows and feedback
- Manage resource allocation and even work distribution across discipline team
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years’ experience doing character art (preferably in Gaming or animation)
- Advanced skills in 3D/2D Software - Maya, ZBrush, Photoshop and Substance Painter
- Deep understanding of human anatomy, form, and color theory
- Demonstrated ability to create stylized characters through past professional or personal work samples
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the League of Legends IP and skins universe
- Experience working with external vendors, giving thorough direction and delivering timely, clear feedback
